I was lurking but had to register to say this is the nerdiest thread I think I've seen

and the weight difference between skeleton and bulk lol

maybe skeleton starving himself is virtuous because his carbon footprint must be tiny,
bulk on the other hand...

The only 80's cartoon I liked were the ones that were there to sell toys strangely,
he-man and transformers.
jamie and the magic torch was alright, and mr ben of course.

He means that Skeleton was effeminate. That's what they wouldn't get away with in children's programs these days.

LOL. Welcome aboard. Stick around and you'll soon stumble across nerdier posts than this one... and only a small fraction of them were started by me.

I think the extreme contrast between Skeleton and Bulk was probably considered funny by the writers in the same way that plenty of people find Laurel and Hardy funny. They're chalk and cheese visually and then when they speak the point is hammered home even further.

Oh I see now, thanks for clearing that up. I'd imagine an effeminate character in a modern cartoon would be fine as long as the portrayal isn't derogatory in any way. If they're a bit different from the norm and no-one makes a big deal about it then that's a positive message to send to kids.

I'm not up to speed on current cartoons so couldn't say if this is the approach any of them are taking.

Ulysses 31 - simply fantastic (and the theme tune)

Hell - they made a game out of Super Gran - why not Bananaman!

I've done a few quick searches to see if other DC Thomson characters made it as stars of their own games and it's certainly slim pickings. Their most popular character was probably Dennis the Menace and he didn't even get his own dedicated game.

Maybe the fee they estimated them to be worth just weren't viable for the developers. I know Alternative had two Beano-themed games in the pipeline, but they fell through so the theory could still hold. No better explanation springs to mind. Like you say, if Super Gran had her own game...

Actually... anybody want to make a Bananaman game? I've started creating some animations based on screen grabs from a YouTube video. I was going to do a simple Bananaman-throws-bananas-at-Dr-Gloom type thing. Nothing fancy. Only, I suck at graphics so if anyone can lend a pixel-editing hand please let me know.

That would be a fun project, though I'd hate to see a lot of effort go to waste if it falls foul of the copyright police like the DIY smurf game.
