I need advice on my real amiga A4000D Xmas

Hi All

I need advice on my real amiga A4000D

The original IDE HD what was in it has now died so lost all the driver and I have lost the 4GB CF card when I have moved home
So now I have to start again.

The spec of my real amiga
4000/40
IDE DVD rom,
Ariadne II Network Card,
Macrosystem Retino BLT Z3 VGA card
Warp engine acelerator card
CF adapter install

I have all original disk's and CD's WB 3.1 Disks, WB 3.5 CD and WB 3.9 CD ready to install.

Now download all the drive form the internet for the card's ( hopefull these are the right one )

AmiCDROM-1.15.lha and IDEfix97.lha
AriadneII_43_12.lha
AriadneII_Info-10.lha
AriadneII-10-1.dms
AriadneII-10-2.dms
AriadneII-14a.dms
AriadneII-14b.dms
Retina-20.dms
Retina-21.dms
Retina-22.dms
Retina-23.dms
Retina-23.lha
RetinaTuning.dms
WarpEngine.dms

So my question is can I run 4GB CF card and setup New WB in the real amiga A4000D or do I need to do this with my PC in WinUae.
If yes can anyone tell the correct setting to set it up in WinUae.

So can anyone HELP me to resetup my real Amiga A4000D

Another question is. can I use Kingston 60gb SSD Hard Drive and form ebay I brought IDE to SATA Converter Adaptor? will this work in my Amiga A4000D this was a second option
but look like I will stick with the 4GB CF Card?

thank you

You can set it up in the A4000 just fine.

You can use a 60GB drive too, use pfs3aio, make sure the first partition is within 7,8GB, load a patched scsi.device in the startup-sequence (wb3.9 does this automatically).

One note about those Retina.dms's they the very old RetinaEmu RTG system.

You really dont want to run that anymore (except for as a historical curiosity), instead grab Picasso96 or Cybergraphics4.

Both systems have newer drivers for your card and are far more compatible. It will save you a lot of headaches

Look in DEVS: Dosdrivers for your cd drive, it's a text file that you can edit. CD0 or CD1 etc..

Edit the file in DEVS: Dosdrivers for your CD with a text editor and change where it has uaescsi.device to scsi.device and it will be either unit 0 or unit 1.

CF-card is one of those, the CDrom would be the other as only 2 devices are allowed on the IDE port.

What is your addon card on a chip? An Indivision AGA? I have one of those and a Picasso II on my A4000D without issue (Indivision feeding in to the Picasso II, Picasso II sending to monitor).

Hold down both mouse buttons, boot with no startup-sequence and see if you get a display. You can delete the preferences saved for your screen mode from the CLI prompt that opens. You can also look (dir) what monitors are in DEVS:monitors

Pretty similar to the Indivision AGA.

The retina doesn't look to have pass-thru abilities so you'd need to have a Retina (P96) mode selected in Screenmode if you are plugged in to that, otherwise plug in to your DCE Flicker Magic to see what you had before installing P96. You'll need a monitor in each though, one for Amiga screens and the other for P96 screens and screens that can be promoted to RTG.

OK guy

still have not got the CD/DVD Rom to work.

I have install WB 3.9 OS form CD in WinUAE and setup CD with WB 3.9 CD driver installer
I have done two way to install, one is SCSI Direct, or Diskchange Interrupt, and it makes no difference then WB load up on my A4000D it show CD0:uninitialized and will not see OS3.9 CD

Put CD to unit 0 then i get CD0:uninitialized or put unit 1 then it can not see it.

You already know it IDE drive conneted through IDE adapter made by Amigakit.com

What version is your scsi.device? Mine is 43.45.
in a shell windows type: version scsi.device

What does it return as the version? You have to have a patched scsi.device to use the A4000's ide (scsi.device) controller for atapi devices like a CDRom.

Also is your CDrom on 0 or 1? What is your CF-Card reader on? It's going to be 0 or 1 as well.... 0 should be MASTER and 1 should be SLAVE.

Run HDToolBox and select scsi.device (it should show that and possibly warpdrive.device if you have that in devs:..maybe a few more devices) and what are the devices listed on the scsi.device? You can see in mine that the CF-Card is on "id 0" and the DVD-RW drive is on "id 1"

Now my CD0 file (which I keep in WBStartup instead of DEVS: Dosdrivers) and since my CD is "id 1" as HDToolBox showed, I have to have it match in here as being "unit=1"
