Thank you for your appreciation

Next weekend I am going to build a few units, but I have to be honest ... a lot of people already asked me for one or two, and I can't manage to build them in such a large quantities myself.

I will probably have around 10 DIY kits ready by Monday, but the exact number of assemled units, I can't tell you now.

I will post here as soon as I will have any assembled board available, anyway.

I think I'm going to build a reservation list somewhere, so I can keep track of requests and relevant priority queue.

Annuncing availability of a few assembled boards and DIY KITS

Hello everybody !

I have two assembled "Black" boards, and four DIY Kits available.

I would ask:
30€ + shipping for the assembled board
25€ + shipping for the DIY kit

I also have still seven "lite" version pcbs (ask 2€ each + shipping)

Shipping should be 4€ with priority mail within EU (other countries: ask)

I will serve requests in incoming order, until units/kits are available.
I will post the request queue in first post.

@Marlo: your "half/DIY" kit is ready, counted apart from the latter four.

Nice, I would be interested in buying one. Are these the "DeLuxe" versions?

Yes, both assembled boards and DIY kits are DeLuxe
If you want Lite, at the moment I have only pcbs (I am short of components)

I am sorry to have so a little number of units available, but I can't manage assembling myself in quantities.

I will in few minutes post in first page the "request queue" in order they has arrived, then I will start serving orders to anyone is confirming.

I would like to register interest for one please. To make life easier I can do the assembly myself so DIY is OK for me. I will PM shortly.

Thanks.

I had an idea for a similar project using an AT90USB167, but I notice that you are using an STM32.

Can I ask what part it is? And why you chose it? The AT90 has the advantage of being able to run at 5V. I guess you found an STM32 with 5V tolerant inputs and USB host.

What USB stack do you use?

Sure !
It is STM32F105.
You guessed right: it has 5V tolerant IO (though at the end I decided to translate levels with MOSFETs, but the "Lite" version with direct IO works fine as well), it has USB host support built-in and it is, among the similar options of other manfacturers, one of the cheapest.

USB stack is based on STM32 CUBE USB library, plus a number of proprietary customizations from my side (e.g. CUBE library only supports not other than HID Mouse and Keyb classes, etc)

Thanks, that's very interesting!

My plan was to connect to many different computers and consoles, not just the Amiga, so I thought that real 5V I/O lines might be useful as some systems require you to drive lines high. But I think in practice they all probably have pull-ups anyway.

What IDE do you use? I've only used Keil for STM32, but for hobby stuff it's too expensive. The CubeMX stuff is okay, I have not used the USB stack but the other peripheral libraries are "adequate".

I'm using Atollic TrueSTUDIO; it is a bit tricky first times to setup a coherent environment, but after a few experiences it is quite adequate for small/hobby projects.

Beware of CubeMX self-generated code, it is often bugged as hell and you'll lost lots of time following glitches buried in (frankly) too many levels of abstraction.

Thanks, I'll give it a look. I know what you mean about CubeMX, it's been getting better but is still quite bad.

Did you find a cheap dev board for this project or just make your own?

For those interested: released v1.7.3
  • Added custom free mapping of first 4 buttons of Gamepad. By pressing 4buttons+LeftStickDown the board enters in mapping mode; pressing in turn single buttons maps them on Amiga1->Amiga2->Up->Down
  • Added custom mapping config autosave: each custom configuration is permanently stored and recalled upon Gamepad reconnection.
  • Separate permanent configs (up to 20) are saved and recalled automatically upon recognition of Gamepads brand/model
  • Added support for 12 bit high resolution gaming mice
  • Added customizable real-time mouse pointer speed adjust, by rolling the mousewheel forward/backwards
Sent fw update to those already have built the board and sent me their custom code.

Others ask when needed, I'll send the latest fw available at the moment.
