I don't know wb 4.0, but on 3.1 is:

Start a Shell, go to the directory Kickstarts then write:

ed BootDevice

write DH0 then press first escape (you will see a * on the bottom of the screen) then x to save the file.

Done!

In Workbench 3.0, open a shell, and type

Echo "DH0" >ram:BootDevice

Close the shell. Look in ram: and drag/drop the file wherever you want it to be.

@meega
this sounds a lot easyer

doing a complete clean install of os4.0, and os3.1>os3.5,
will let you know what happens
thanks

If the drawer "Kickstarts" is already present in Devs, then...

Press Right-Amiga and E (calls up Execute a Command) and type

echo "DH0" >devs:kickstarts/BootDevice

Press Return (or click OK). Even easier.

Solution to that is simple - don't try to use the shell as an editor.

well i have done a clean install of os4.0 classic.followed the manual.
ed & edit when launched just rollover a few times then vanish ??
and i cant use shell either,
so i decided to install the os4 update to see if that would improve things.
now i am left with a grey/white screen? wtf is going on
