Nexus 7 of course ...

you can check some here,

http://ada.untergrund.net/?p=demos&y=0&c=0&h=3&v=4

all AGA demos with vote > 4.0. Granted most are for expanded machines, but it's a good place to start ...

ADA should really have seperate AGA'030, AGA'060 categories ...

It's really interesting, how most demos needed an accelerator. There weren't really many demos that ran on a stock A1200. That is an area that hopefully will be untapped by teh new generation of Amiga democoders.

the best AGA demos were done before 1999-1998
after that time the demos are buggy or not very good

Hi guys I'm a bit late to the post, but I'm giving a demonstration on the 8th of June in Boston (musical stuff mostly) of my Amiga 1200 and I'd like to show a few AGA demos, however even back in the day I wasn't the most sophisticated Amiga user and my son and I are trying to figure out how to

I have a CF card I can use to move files from my Mac to my Amiga without trouble. The issue is that I really have lost touch with how to fire up a demo. Are these demos above (i have found / downloaded most of them) something copy onto a floppy and boot from or are AGA demos more "modern" and not require booting as a system dedicated program?

I see some of these files (LHA) "unzip" to .exe files. I know the amiga isn't like windows where it sees extensions but is the exe itself a compressed file that needs further uncompressing or can i just put that file as is on a floppy or better yet just double click?

Just trying to get acquainted with how demos of the AGA era should be treated.

I'm going downstairs now to see what i can do, but i'm also trying to keep the wear and tear on my floppy drive to a minimum if i do need to write these files to floppy to boot from.

Thanks,
Caleb

there is so many beutifull AGA demos, one best of the other. the list could very very long.
Relic on 060@66 Mhz run so smooth that you cannot imagine what you see. You can see more frame that you never see on 060@50 mhz.
It's not too fast. it run greatly.

Works fine on 060 and is intended for that very CPU! Doesn't run at full speed on 040!

Practically all AGA demos are meant to be run from HD, so no floppies involved.

Exes are normal executables which start the demo, they aren't archives. Usually you just unarchive the LHA and then launch the executable which may contain .exe in their names or may not. Sometimes they're just "demoname", sometimes containing extension (.exe, .executable, .x, .somethingcoderfindsfunny), usually it's pretty obvious when you compare to other files in the same dir anyway.

You may try to double click executables from WB, but you may have some trouble with some demos that way, because you don't have all chipmem free or you may have some patches on the system which breaks the demo etc.

The safest bet, and what they usually do at demo compos, is to start your Amiga without startup-sequence (hold both mouse buttons pressed on boot, and select the appropriate option from the early startup control menu), when you see the Amiga shell type "setpatch" and press enter, and then navigate to your demo directory and launch the demo from the shell.

I did not write that it works badly on 060, this demo does not use 060 full power, 040 is enough. I had very long 040, now I have 060.

Relic on the real Amiga CD32 SX32 Pro (68030/50 + 68882/50), it is a pity that no demo also has been optimized for Akiko, but it's a different topic.
