Amiga Centipede?
I'm looking for an Amiga version of Centipede. I've been looking off and on for a few years and all I've come up with is a half-finished PD version (which isn't bad, but it's.. half-finished).
Not that it's my favourite game or anything, but I've got a trackball almost exactly the same as the arcade Centipede and I'd like to "relive the moment". |

No, I tried that years ago but didn't like it. I'm looking for something closer to the original.

CU Amiga magazine ran in 1992 a top 100 of PD-games, and one of them was a Centipede clone. Thing is I forgot that name! It is called Amigapede or something similar. I'll dive into the mag this weekend.

@Chuckles
I just played that 10 minutes ago and it's pretty bad. Maybe that's why nobody ever made an HD install for it. I was hoping somebody made a good Centipede copy, like all those Bignonia games (whatever happened to those guys?). |

Well, I'm not much of a Centipede fan, so I think all of the versions I've seen are pretty bad, including the original. I just knew about Evil Garden because I had an original, which I probably picked up only because it was most likely dirt cheap (being a lousy game). If there is a better version of Centipede for Amiga though, I haven't seen it, so good luck finding one. Sure would be handy if there was a search option in HOL that would allow you to search for games similar to an entered game name, but I'm sure that adding the info to the database that would be needed to make it work would be a nightmare.

Thanks for the link Galaxy. The game looks promising and I actually found a copy, but it doesn't work. The menu screen works and the opening screens for games work, but then it freezes when starting the game. There doesn't seem to be any available HD installer. So much for that.

I figured it out. I used skick to boot 1.3 and now everything works. It's disappointing though. The game is actually crap.
I've noticed that a lot of Amiga versions of classic arcade games are actually UGLIER than the originals. You'd think that the people making the games would either exactly recreate the game (like the Bignonia games) or make it much better (like MasterBlazer and MegaPhoenix). I wonder what these people were thinking. I really appreciate the links though, guys. I would definitely never have found these games on my own. (although I would like to find better games... ) |

Anyone got an original of this ?
[edit] Got one. BETA-1 WHDLoad installer: http://www.girvnet.org.uk/Renaissance1WHD.lha ( 27Kb) http://www.girvnet.org.uk/Renaissance1HD.lha (621Kb) FIXES: - keyboard timing fixed - decrunchers moved to fast memory - high score saving added High score saving is available only to registered WHDLoad users. High scores will only be saved if you return to the compilation menu after a game (press 'Q') . Still looking for the Classic-4 budget re-release version! You can try MAME 0.34.1 to run the real arcade rom on your Amiga.
I guess you will need a fast CPU(maybe 040 is enough) but it's as close to the original as possible. It runs fine under WinUAE in the background while type this. Played a few rounds but I allways die on 3rd wave. It was set to "easy" in the service menu.^^ MAME(gui) didn't find the rom with autoscan, however if it's in the rom path and Show All is selcted it works. |

@Michael_Sykes:
I have MAME 0.35.12, but not this game. Any chance you could put it in the Zone? It is hard to find ROMs for such old versions of MAME now... |

http://www.oldgamesfinder.com/?m=2&q=Wormout%202097 It needs kickstart 2.0 and above though as I have just tested it. It is more of a snake clone than Centipede for what its worth. |
