CF Red Light

Still having trouble with my CF + adapter in a A1200.

The adapter light is red whether a CF is installed or not. Is this typical?

Is the drive working? Some cards don't support the LED properly, resulting in it staying on (or off) all the time. If the card can otherwise be read fine then it's just a cosmetic issue, and can possibly be modified to work properly.

Drive is not working or recognized.

Trying to pinpoint if this an adapter, IDE controller or CF issue.

Hmmm, my personal guess would be that the card isn't fully compatible. Some cards simply don't work on the Amiga. The adaptors are pretty simple devices, though you could have a bad solder joint or something on them. Have you got any other cards around to check? Also, is the adaptor connected correctly? It's very easy to miss one or more pins on the IDE port without noticing.

Isn't this the usual case of CF adapter incompatibility? Can be solved with a jumper wire to a transistor on the adapter.

If its a single CF adapter. Red light on all the time means its in slave mode.
Jumper is not making contact.

Red light is still on - will look at jumpers.

CF card must have been incompatible (or I missed a step with setting up 8gb, IDE patch maybe?). Received a 4gb yesterday and CWB et al set up in a matter of minutes.

The drive should still be recognised by HDToolbox, regardless of size. It's the accessing of partitions beyond 4GB that's an issue with IDE patches, not the actual drive itself.

As for the red LED - my experience with these CF card adaptors is relatively limited, but normal IDE behaviour for a slave device is for the activity LED to be on constantly for around 30 seconds as it asserts _DASP, and then it goes off. ButCF cards tend to ignore certain parts of the specification, especially with respect to master/slave operation.

Anyway, glad you have a working setup now
