No real improve. I really think I couldn't reach much more further in this game, I have been a quite bad player on this kind of games during years. Two questions anyway: 1. What is for the codes in score screen? 2. Is me or sometimes when you start game the ball stars very slow and others it moves at average speed from the begining? |

The ADF version features the ability to select the level you start from. Is this a feature of the game or is it because the ADF version is hacked? (It also has 99 credits, but that shouldn't be an issue as we don't use credits/continues as part of the competition)
If it is hacked I suggest we all start from level 1 |

Ive no idea why the ball can start very slowly, although I did noice it. I'm using the WHDload version which seems to work ok on A500 settings. Yes you get 99 credits on WHD version too. You also get the option to start on any of the first 20 levels. I took it for granted that everyone will start at level 1, and so I hope thats what is happening. On the Lemon site someone suggested changing the UAE speeds to slow down mouse tracking speed, but to me there is no point playing the game if it crawls like a ZX Spectrum title just to gain some points.
Level 3 is the hardest level for me. If I get beyond that insanity I usually do well, if not its Game Over. Last edited by lifeschool; 09 July 2013 at 15:03. |

The suggestion was to slow down the mouse using the input settings of UAE, not to slow down the emulation.

Starting from any level other than 1 is pointless, or at least it is in this competition since you will just cost yourself a lot of points and lives. Level 20 is where things start getting very tough, I lost 4 lives over levels 20 & 21. Level 3 can be a pain but it's smooth sailing from there until 20. My tips: - drink lots of caffeine - collect every powerup capsule as they all give you 1000 points and none of them are really negative. - never miss a black P capsule.. even if you risk losing a life. - extra lives are awarded first at 20,000 then every 50,000 - when you have the laser avoid other capsules into you've cleared as many bricks as possible. - try to master the vaus when the ball is moving really fast.. this is the biggest challenge of the game obviously so try to find your comfort zone. (My mouse speed in winuae is 50 btw) - lastly, a lot is based on luck with capsules unfortunately.. I must have picked up between 4 and 8 'P' capsules on my run.. |

Not so sure if changing mouse speed should be allowed for this competition. As usual the golden rule is to keep as much a level playing field as possible between people who play on real Amigas and WinUAE.

That would be impossible since people have different kinds of mice. Some have gaming mice with adjustable dpi and what would be the 'correct' setting?
If you really wanted to level the playing field, you'd have to have people play on a real Amiga with a standard Amiga mouse. |

Yep.. I'll add that I didn't change my speed to suit the game.. I have winuae set to 50 by default. At 100 it's way too fast - nothing like a real amiga.

About mouse speeds. I tried this on speed 40 and it played a lot like it used to play with the stock A500 extremely low DPI ball-mouse. 30 was too slow, 50 was just a little too fast. I think the very high DPI mice like mine really suffer on this game, Take Em Out, ShufflePuck Cafe etc, plus my new i7 3775k now runs the emu fast in general.
On one hand, yes it makes the game much more playable and comparable to the old mice, but there may be a temptation to slow the mouse tracking speed right down to make the game a bit easier? At any rate, any settling lower than 30 is plainly 'hacking' as it makes the bat go very slowly. 50 as standard setting should be ok. It's a tricky one, but player discretion advised I guess. Sorry to raise this issue. Last edited by lifeschool; 09 July 2013 at 19:49. |

I would probably go along with that lifeschool. As long as people don't abuse it to make it too easy for themselves then "player discretion" is probably best...

I have yet to see other games that use that method, but I'm sure there must be a few more |

A slight improvement, courtesy of a few "P" (extra bat/life) and "L" (laser bat) icons
208,680 235,430 (I wouldn't normally edit my image and message in the comps, but as the scoreboard hasn't been updated yet I don't see any harm in doing so) PS. The 300K score doesn't count. That was when I accidentally started at level 20 Last edited by Lonewolf10; 13 July 2013 at 01:49. Reason: improved score |

I have been distracted playing Aquaria from one of the latest Humble Bundle's, a very stylish underwater shooting game with an enormous size, the soundtrack alone is already 2 h, and there are a dozen bosses. Reminds me very much on Shadow of the Beast, also from the difficulty setting, but luckily there is a walkthrough and a kind of cheat. |
