Simulman n°7 : Il Grande Freddo

Hi guys,

I have bought a sealed copy lately of Simulman n°7 Il Grande Freddo (the great Freddo) from Simulmondo.

The disk was covered with moistures, so i opened the floppy and used my cleaning method. I have again a working disk

I have already generated an ADF of the disk, i'm going now to dump the game, and check its ability to be passed in IPF

EDIT : I have made a dump on my amiga (my drives seems to be out of order.... i must investigate that), and it appears that an IPF can be made properly ; i'm going to upload the dump on our server.

For the moment being, an ADF is available in the zone.

Freddo gets translated as Cold in Italian (not sure if it's a first name, in that case it should be untranslated)

Great job Denis, yet another rare game secured! :

One more thing, what's your "cleaning method"? I have some disks with moisture (maybe mold?) on them and I would like to give it a spin to get an ADF out of them

Yes, Freddo in Italian means Cold and it is not a first name at all... it is a last name (not very common) or maybe a nickname...

My cleaning method ?

first, you need to open the disk in 2 parts very cleanly. You must use a small screwdriver for this. In order to get it right, please try first on a dead disk. there are 4 factory glued points inside a floppy disk. Those must be unsealed

once done, both sides of the magnetic disk must be cleaned, so do it one at a time.

I use alcohol 70°C, and DeMak-up coton eye cleaner (ask your girlfriend, she will show you what it is ahah ), that's a round coton piece used by woman to clean their eyes, it's very soft and so very pratical for cleaning disk surface

I then put a bit a alcohol on the coton, and i wipe gently and quickly from the center of the disk toward the outer of it. Prepare and use another Demak-up coton to finish the cleaning, as well as removing the alcohol on the surface of the disk.

stomp with the coton each internal sides of the floppy plastic sides, in order to kill the moistures, and voilà

Once done, don't glue right away both floppy sides with the disk inside, use some scotch tape and then insert the disk inside your amiga drive or in your dumping drive, and go ! save the whole disk content

That's how i proceed, and i have saved already many very rare games using this procedure.

EDIT : on the box cover, the great freddo is the main guy Simulman must encounter or fight.

This method worked wonders on the NOS NY Warriors I bought off of eBay last year.

he uses coton tips, i try this, but it's too rough for the disk surface. Use pure coton like demak'up allows faster cleaning, as well as sweeping a higher surface

I must do a video of me doing a disk clean-up !

PS : Simulman 7 scans are online, including the manual

EDIT : the dump is now uploaded on the SPS server.

It is reassuring to know the Captain is bouncing back to full strength in the game collecting/preservation business.

Looking at the page you linked, I see that the last 3 games for Amiga are:

3730 Rugby - The World Cup
3666 Hostile Breed
3155 Foundation's Waste

How do you tell the date (updated during this week)?

Thanks, I forgot to activate the "Updated" option .

Why, for example, Trolls has such a low number (#155) in spite of being updated on 2015/02/02 ?
Does this mean that this new Trolls .ipf release replaces the old one?
(this being valid for all other updated titles)

Not sure "updated" necessarily means there's been a release.

Ah, so it could be just a text change in the "Version" field, for example?
