Looking for an old BBC Micro Game
Hi, I'm looking for an old BBC Micro game I used to play at school during lunch break. All I can remember about this game was that you were on a desert island, not sure if you start off there or get stranded...there was also a map screen I think and you had to manage supplies to survive/explore..The only other detail I can recall is that you could find and eat "tapioca" to survive. I'm not sure if the game was purely educational, but it certainly had strategic elements to it.
I've been searching high and low for this game but no luck, hoping it joggs the memory of somebody here. Last edited by lordofchaos; 14 September 2012 at 21:59. |

Perhaps it was only distributed to certain schools around the country? I only have the vaguest of memories of it, it might be part of an educational bundle...I've exhausted the search on Mobygames and no luck
I must have been no older than 10 at the time putting the date around 1988... |

It seems like there is at least one person who also remember the game:

Hmm. I am curious too to know this name too. "Tapioca" is a Brazilian food from the state of "Bahia", where everything started in Brazil, and "malaria" is a tropical disease known in Brazil too, mainly in the regions of Amazonia.
In my country there is a very know 8-bit game from the 70 decade called Amazonia, from Renato Degiovani, if I remember well. It made tremendous success in that decade, albeit I never played it and was released for many platforms like Apple II, MSX, ZX Spectrum, CP/M, etc. Maybe that is the game you are looking for. |

If it is Raft-Away River it seems to be one hell of a rare game.

i remember playing a game called wagons west when i was at school, its not on any tosec rom collection i have for the bbc so im guessing "maybe" like your game, its a specific school education disc collection.
i have found this thread that archives a few school collections, these seems to be graphic adventures using typing skills, its a long shot but maybe worth looking at http://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9040 |

@lordofchaos me and my wife both remember this game. We are same age as you, and my school was in Somerset and my wife's in Hamshire.
She remembers more than me and her eyes lit up at the mention of 'tapico'!! |

I can vaguely remember this game too (I was at school in Dorset).
Also remember a game where you had to manage an ice cream stall (I think) |

I think you're looking for Tea Shop
Found this thread whilst looking for the name of this game.
I too remember this (or something like it) from school. We were allowed to play it during computer lessons occasionally. You'd play against your school friends all sharing a computer and you'd decide how much stock to buy and how much to charge. each player would put in their predictions and then the turn would take place. If I remember correctly you had to pick if you want to buy/make ice creams or tea based on the weather forcast for the following week. I certainly thought there was an element of Tea or Ice cream... Could you be looking for the game called Tea Shop? http://bbcmicro.co.uk/game.php?id=2884 You can play it on that website and it seems like what I remember. |
