Netsurf 68k updated todo list

Current version of 68k netsurf is SDL/Frambuffer, wich is problem because SDL is too slow for 68k cpus and frameburrer version of netsurf has never planned to general use. It is for debugging or no gui systems.

SDL and Framebuffer are also problem because increased system/memory requirements. Netsurf requirements are ARM6 cpu and 16mb ram. ARM6 is about 030 equlent and with 16mb ram current 68k version doesn't even start.

Chris has updated OS4 version to support 8bit screens, so AGA version is now more viable.

Quote:
In 3.0 I have added 8-bit plotters, and the performance hit from dithering bitmaps down doesn't notice, probably because it is offset by the speed gained by not anti-aliasing text. It's done via DataTypes so could surely be optimised should somebody have the inclination to do so.
Chris has made a lot of work to keep 68k version possible, would shame if it doesn't materialice.

TODO list:

http://wiki.netsurf-browser.org/Todo...nd#OS3_Support

OS4 sources:

http://git.netsurf-browser.org/?p=ne...508920;hb=HEAD

Netsurf is only possible "semi modern" web browser fo real 68k hardware for several reasons, one of them is, it could support AGA. So stop dreaming Firefox or OWB.

Screenshot Netsurf running 8bit screen.

Great to hear that, so that theres a chance to get NetSurf working with AGA in the future. The dithering looks good for the 8bit OS4 version..
Anyway latest version of NetSurf 68k (SDL) works correctly only in Truecolor, hope that the developer can fix it to work in 16bit again.

alternatively aros owb works already on aros68k to certain extent. im not sure if this is worth to pursue this path and get that obsolete port fully working but it is also proof of concept that webkit core may work close to acceptable speed on high end amiga (68k) hardware, more here:

Some progress has now been made on a 68k AGA build, still very early days but I'm working with Chris who is helping me port this sucker to OS3 AGA.

Hope to have more news (and a project section) soon.

Wow, if we can get this for the classics, it would be so fantastic. I understand that it's a lot of work though, but hope we'll see an beta eventually. Would it possible for any 3.x or would we need OS 3.9?

Hiya,

I spent a few months on this monster of a project but really struggled with the build environment (which is not targeted at 68k). I wasn't really getting anywhere so I had to give up on that as it was sucking up all of my time.

The good news is that the Arti who did the SDL 68k port is now working on a native AGA version (which I'm helping with), you can can track the progress here -> http://www.amigacoding.de/index.php?topic=291.msg725

Send a message via ICQ to BuZz
just read those posts and you talking about how to share /work on the code - Source control will be a lot easier/more useful than both editing the same files shared on dropbox or something (unless I misunderstood?).

Agreed, proper source control will be needed if we are going to collaborate on this effectively.
