Higer processor extras??
Hi
I know that most games are able to run perfectly well on the old stock amigas. But I was just wondering wich games take adavantage of any upgrades that you might install. I understand that most games might run a bit smoother but Im on about Games like setters ( bigger map size ) Atrain ( Higer res). I just want to get a list up of games that I can have a go at seeing the differances just out of interest really. Oh and also any games that just wont run well uless you have upgraded. |

Hired Guns - More Ram enables extra sound effects.
Leander - I don't know what is enhanced but a message tells that the expansion board is utilized. Syndicate - Cpu needs to be better than 68000 otherwise extreme slowdowns will happen. 3d games like breathless, gloom etc. - Stronger the cpu, the better. Breathless isn't good even on a 030/50 Eye of the beholder 2 - I'm not sure about this but me old a500+ used to not play some of the music and I thought this was caused by insufficient ram (had 1mb at that time) Last edited by oldpx; 19 February 2005 at 03:08. |

Wing Commander was also extremely sluggish on a stock Amiga - pretty much unplayable. Assuming you have an accelerator, it becomes playable again.

Great Courts 2 - With 1Mb chip mem, you get full sound effects for the umpire's calls.
Walker - With enough memory you can hear the speech intro just before the Walker is about to be attached (which is actually annoying as you can't skip it - hence the WHDLoad version has a version with and without the speech). Some other games like World Cricket will load the entire game into RAM if there is spare memory, thus it no longer needs the disk. |

Wings runs smoother on an A1200.
Played it on my A500 when it was released, remember how much it lagged back then. Formula One Grand Prix will also benefit from a faster CPU but dunno if the game works with 68030 and up. |

Mortal Kombat 2 gives you full speech if you have 1.5MB of RAM or more.

Sim Ant gives you the possibility of high resolution with 2mb ram (or more than 512kb? i don't remember exactly)

Wasn't Ambermoon too capable of using additional mem?
I even seem to remember that on an AGA machine, graphics were enhanced. Sorry, no time to test this out atm. |

Ive tried A-train and it runs fine in high res on my m-tec 1230 @ 28mhz 8mb.
F1 GP I think I ran the other day ok. Sim ant is a game I have never played so i will give that a go soon. I thought gunship 2000 was sonr that would run better but i could not even remeber how to turn the bloody engine ( soem one pleas tell me ) on so god know on that one . The editor for settlers runs fater now thank god for that!! Map size on the game its self is killer. |

Pinball Fantasies say "Extra Memory Detected" whilst loading - never ran it on a machine with less than 2MB chip though, so don't know what the differences are.

Lemmings used to make use of the 512k extra memory, maybe for sound effects or something?

Settlers improved a lot if used with 2mb, I remember trying with my stock A500+ with 1mb, no music, just around 30% of the sounds, and this amount of world or something, still bloody playable,.... then the extra mb came, WOOAOARARGHHH!! 2mb gave full music + sound and loads more :-D
I also remember sometimes on 1mb it gave me more than 50% of sound effects sometimes, I never knew why... kept trying to restart and get it but never hardly happened. Erm, others? ... uhhh.... *The Specials - Blank Expression plays* |

for the A500 the 1/2mb upgrade is a must!
Frontier - Elite II is better on A1200 cos of faster processor and more mb the BIG upgrades i.e. Blizzard card and 16mb are only really for the PC clones of Wipeout 2097, Doom etc... ... and of course rendering etc |

Lemmings 2 makes use of >1MB of RAM by preloading the game data whilst it is still compressed instead of decompressing whilst it loads.

first game I noticed a difference: F/A 18 Interceptor (Top Gun alike intro sound with A501)
first tool I noticed a difference: White Lightning copier (read source disk in 1 go! Must say first game I tried when having an A4000/040 was F/A18, and it ran without an issue, it was just sooooooooooo smooth without going too fast, a dream came true! |

Cool gonna check out that F/A interceptor. I like the older flight sims
Well looks like there are not many clasic comercial games that would take adavantage of more than 2mb only smoother running ect. Well cooll thanks for your input guys its been an interesting thread. |
