Resolution Questions

I have gathered that the Amiga used funky weird resolutions that most PC monitors don't like (is that correct?).

Can someone tell me what resolution the Amiga typically ran for games (not including Hi-Res mode or Interlaced mode, natch).

Some games I have played have the bottom of their screen cropped off when I run WinUAE in 640x480, what's the best resolution/compromise?

Thanks!

Most games run in 320x256 (not including overscan)

Best resolutions are double that

640x512

alternativel 720x576 would cover the overscan resolutions

What you might be doing wrong is running the emulation in NTSC mode, which will for sure cut off part of the bottom of the screen. Most Amiga games run happily in PAL mode (their intended resolution in most cases).

As for the true NTSC titles, for the most part these fit perfectly in a 640 x 400 screen without losing any of the graphics. Some number of PAL titles appear to have purposely limited themselves to this resolution, probably with US marketing of those titles in mind.

This reminds me... I got a game years ago on the Amiga (can't remember which one) that automatically switched to NTSC mode when you ran it.
My poor PAL TV couldn't cope with it & just flickered the image at me...
