Warning: Gumtree seller possibly selling unofficial discs?

https://www.gumtree.com/p/video-game...mes/1269728041

This ^ was brought to my attention earlier. There's no price on it but presumably he sells them when contacted.

The UK seller's ads have all mysteriously disappeared within hours of your post here! Curious!

http://webcache.googleusercontent.co...trip=0&vwsrc=0 (Google Cache copy of Gumtree ad selling Earok's CD32 games compilation)

EDIT: Looks like the seller was flogging your games CD (and other homebrew ones) for 10 UKP each in another ad. Dodgy bugger!

That's shocking, if the add is right then its someone in Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex but that could be a false address in case they got noticed like they have been.

Don't forget he / she probably also printed out the cover / label I'd assume; so that's why it cost so much

Hi folks, I'm on the WinUAE section normally worshipping all created by Toni but saw on the indie news site about one of your disks (Cd32 and Beer comp) so headed here to have a look at what there is. Loved the comps but saw this thread..

As the location is known (unlikely they lied about that) and the person reads here (as a post was removed after the thread started) there's a slim possibility that someone may know the posters name...

Go on, if you know 100% who it is then name and shame...

These comps are created in good faith with lots of involved people so a crass bastage ripping off that stuff is lower than Bantha poodo (Star wars joke).

I'm also all over the retro community and we had the same sort of thing, possibly same person selling CD's with emulators for lots of systems as well as Atari..

All this is out there for free and if it was a service just to burn a dic for that price then you might have some understanding but its blatant ripping off..

Paul..

Oh, my location, under my avatar...Not near Bexhill....

Just as a thought. Why don't the compilation creators or a designated representative do ebay posts themselves for a reasonable cost to cover discs and printing with a disclaimer stating how a person can get these for free? Maybe stop these clowns posting the bloated ebay priced posts. Same with Gumtree. Both ebay & gumtree will most times just ignore copyright claims. You could claim creator of the compilation and supporting the CD32 scene. Just an idea.

I don’t understand quite why the creators are getting that upset that their collection of copied games is being copied. Do you see what I mean?

I guess that the creators spent some time making sure the menu’s and controls work etc, but this seller is doing a legally grey thing with a product that is legally grey in the first place.

Unless all of the games featured are legally abandonware, then I apologise.

Yeah it’s a bit scumbag seller-like I guess, but far from the worst thing I’ve heard.

EDIT: I don’t want to make anyone feel bad, I might have got the situation wrong and might not know all the facts, I’m new to this board.

Yeah of course

I still don’t quite understand why everyone is that upset, I need it spelling out for me, I can be a bit dense at times, lol.

Due to the fact that these are free compilations and people are selling them on eBay / Gumtree for ludicrous prices / making money; for just burning a CD-R and printing out covers.

Why not add an eBay (and the likes) "deterrent" screen to these homebrew compilations.
Just like many fan translators do, for instance one like this from the english Akumajou Dracula X translation for PS1:
