AmigaSYS Linux Live CD - beta1 -

"Amiga Alive" is a knoppix-based live CD, that boots into the E-UAE Amiga Emulator (maintained by R.C.Drummond, check http://rcdrummond.net/uae for more info). After loading the emulator you'll get the enhanced AMIGASYS workbench.

The coolest part of this project is, that after extracting the original ROM files from your own Amiga (and grabbing the installer + extras floppies), you can take your virtual Amiga everywhere. Just put the knoppix.img generated by my builder-script on an USB flash memory key, bring your freshly burned CD, plug it into a computer (x86) and voilla! Be aware that it's still a beta, let me know if you like it. Email:

Have fun!

It's a nice idea, except:

1. There are no instructions, so I've no way of knowing how to get my ADFs/hard disk images/ROM files across to the ISO;
2. The disc boots into fluxbox, then leaves you to discover the link to UAE on the right mouse menu yourself;
3. The version of UAE in the right mouse menu is the bog-standard Linux build (0.88?), not E-UAE - loading E-UAE requires you to load one of the shells that works (bash doesn't seem to load, nor does sh - missing from the CD?) and dig around in the filesystem until you can find it;
4. It takes longer to load than Windows XP plus WinUAE.

So, we have a dilemma. Hardcore Linux users won't *need* to use it, as they'll have E-UAE already installed. Everyone else won't know *how* to use it.

As I said, though, it's a good idea, and it'll no doubt improve in future versions.

There is a newer self compilied edition of E-UAE installed (just start UAE from shell). And an instruction readme is included in the BULIDER.TAR archiv which includes AmigaSYS.
In the next Edition, AmigaSYS will placed on the ISO. This is just the first test!

Okay, it boots to a command prompt. Then what? How exactly do you boot E-UAE?

AmigaSYS was placed separatly in an other arvhiv named BUILDER.TAR. to use you have to download it. To install, simply extract the archiv, read the README document and follow the installation orders. UAE 0.8.27 should be able to start from console. You type "uae" then will be start 0.8.27, you type "uae-x" you will get the older version for more compatibility!

Ah! It's good to see people are actually trying my distro. It's a beta, please do remind that. The next version will include AmigaSYS on CD + the builder. So I prolly make an graphical installer for it. I'm also trying to reduce the size of the CD.

(Christoph/Calo: Thanks for the explanation on the forum!)

The second beta looks much better and more useable than the first beta release! The reduction of the package size from 200+55MB to 97 MB is realla good!
