TF1230 heatsink

Hi Everyone,

I got a TF1230 yesterday which has solved some issues that I was having with my 1200. However the supplied heatsink means that if I reassemble the case the keyboard is going to be pushing down on the card, which doesn't seem like a good idea at all. Does the 030 need a heatsink? Has anyone used a lower profile heatsink?

Thanks!

I have never put a heatsink on any 030 TF330 boards so I would not worry too much, just remove it

I also have not had any heatsinks on my 030s (not even 50MHz ones), they're still fine after all these years.

I don't put heatsinks on my 1230s either, it's not necessary.

Anyone know what temperature an 030 rises to without a heatsink?

It gets hot but its designed to run like that (i.e. without a heatsink). The fact that so many 1230 blizzards etc are still alive and well after all these years is proof of that. That being said, its never wrong with a little help with heat dissipation.

It depends on the CPU revision... earlier revisions get hotter, the later ones less, but because everything is reprinted nowadays, you will most likely never have a way of knowing which one you have.
