Amiga 500 Video Cable simple basic questions

Hi everyone,

I would really like to build a video cable to connect my Amiga 500 to a VGA source.

I saw this video, where the guy makes such a cable using 6 pins (R, G, B, Ground, H sync and V sync):

I have 2 questions:

1. How can I find which wire is which when I cut the VGA cable?
2. Is it possible to burn the monitor if the wiring is incorrect?

Thanks

If you're planning on building cables, you should really have a multimeter. With one of those, you can check each wire in the cable to see which pin it connects to.

You're unlikely to damage the monitor if you mix the standard signals up, but there are some pins at the Amiga end that carry higher voltages and you should be very careful to make sure you don't mistakenly connect any of them.

Not all VGA monitors support the 15khz scan rate of the Amiga for most things.
Most don't in fact. So you'll need to see if your VGA monitor does.
You can use a VGAOnly screenmode if your Amiga supports it, but most software won't use it.

Ok, thank you. Will give it a try
