Exactly, thats why it is terrible. Don't know why you have to hunt me down for speaking the truth! The first movie might have been fun if it wasn't PG-13. As it is now - oh well.

Note: doesn't stop people from trying though:

Another apefirmative action abomination

Anyways. I recently watched this movie called "The Rite". I liked the story, it's a refreshing twist to the classic exorcism plot, but the acting (save Anthony Hopkins') leaves a lot to be desired, and it doesn't help that the main characters are downright clicheish (unorthodox teacher, rebellious student, come on ) . The FX are far cry from convincing, let a lone scary, and even though the shocking factor wasn't it's selling point, they could have done a much better job for the very few scenes where it was actually required.

Overall the movie was entertaining but not particularly well executed. It takes a solid 6 out of 10 from me, nothing more.

It was okay, certainly way better than the average superhero movie. Nice to see Robert de Niro playing a well spoken, ruthless guy again; its what he does best IMO

Not bad at all, the ending made me think for a moment. The first half of the movie got a little on my nerves though, its a bit... repetitive. Literally. Don't buy it, its not a movie you'll quickly watch a second time.

Just watched 'Tokyo Gore School' and thought it was great with a nice (almost comical) unexpected twist at the end... I'm really getting into these weird and slightly disturbing Japanese movies

Hm, then also watch "Audition", "Crows 0" (plus sequel), "Twilight Samurai", "Casshern", the "Ring" trilogy (part 2 isn't that good), "Ju-On: the Grudge" 1 & 2, "Dark Water", "Battle Royale" 1 & 2, "Oldboy" and "Dumplings". Warning: don't watch dumplings on a full stomach

Also if you are according to 21st century standards jaded towards violence you might also give Sympathy for Lady Vengeance a try; I couldn't really appreciate it to be honest, my girlfriend likes it a lot though.

Get Him To The Greek.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1226229/

The movie is littered with awkward scenes and cringe-worthy dialogue moments. But overall I was pissing my pants. About 3/4th into the movie when the duo is talking with Russel's dad while drinking and doing all kinds of drugs is the most funny 15 minutes of film I've seen in a LONG time!

Don't ask me why I love this movie and I don't like for example the Hangover, I can't really explain it myself. Its the actors I guess.

Red Riding Hood.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1486185/

Not bad. It has a nice artistic style to it and it is a fun "grimm" like twist to the tale turning it into a whodunnit. Who is the wolf? Who indeed...

Gary Oldman should have carried this movie though, yet he just doesn't really make any real presence at any time. He's just running around shouting at people basically, hardly any acting needed there. Its a shame the writers here were too weak to properly use his talents.

Has anyone seen Bridesmaids? It is a feel-good, chick flick. At the end of the film, I was amazed at what the wedding looked like, and I was wondering is this what American weddings are like. It uses some music I don't even know the name of.

Crows 0 - part 2.

I liked the first one, its a crazy action flick with lots of hard fist fights (in increasingly larger groups) and crazy over the top humor with a mild manga style to it. Highly recommended.

The second one is more of the same (with all the same characters, being a direct sequel)... but its a mess. Its hard to follow, there isn't really much going on and although there is still some humor left, there isn't enough of it to fill the holes. Such a shame.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Really good prequel to the original series, a decent story with brilliant CGI apes/effects. Go, watch it!

Troll hunter - silly story (does not hold water at all) but trolls in the night look impressive, the movie has nice atmosphere.

A hobo with a shotgun -rutger hauer was certainly the most expensive element the movie is gory and utterly boring, one should avoid it imho.

Balada triste de trompeta - visually great, but the whole political metaphore... dunno, I did not like it (it happens in Spain during the home war). On the other hand a friend with whom I was watching this is die-hard socialist and he pissed his pants, so... good to watch mostly for images (and ideological reasons if you are much into politics ).

Harry Potter 8, on the big screen (2D). Good choice because this movie rights the horrible seventh movie. I must say that the movie is also quite faithful to the book, as far as the flaws of the previous movies allow. Quite a thrill ride from start to finish, highly recommended viewing even if you know the story already!

Watched Blitz http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1297919/ and Priest http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0822847/ over the weekend.

Blitz was a great film, which started off with some bad ass action from the main character (Jason Statham) and never seemed to stop. It's set in and around London and gives it a sleazy kind of atmosphere from start to finish. It's not your average cop film, this is worth a look if you're into gratuitous violence. The acting is flawless and I'd give this film 9 out of 10 for watch-ability.

Priest was also quite good, set in the doomed future it's sort of a semi horror come action type film. It includes Vampires, but not the kind you or I would of expected. Don't want to give too much away but this is another film that's worth a look, although not as scary, or frighten the s@#t out of you, film, although some will get the odd jump, but even then those scenes are pretty tame. Overall score, I'd give it 8 out of 10, because it's short enough not to become too boring.

Watched the press release of the new Conan movie yesterday... poor crap that lets you question the fact why it has to be shown in cinemas, because it feels and looks like a cheap tv production. 3rd class story, 3rd class actors (except Ron Perlman of course) - this is really not worth a dime spend to watch it!

Ron Perlman is special in that he can play in absolute shit and still come out clean at the end

Speaking of Ron, anyone seen the Mutant Chronicles?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0490181/

Its been on the laptop just begging to be seen for over a year now and somehow it never pulls me enough to actually go do it. Is it any good?

Well I finally answered my own question and saw the Mutant Chronicles. Its hard to judge it because its a low budget effort with some big Hollywood names. As a movie it sucks tits, but there is that "its different" vibe to it that makes me want to recommend it anyway. Dog Soldiers has that same vibe to it. Its terrible, but its great at the same time.

Almost no story (and what little story it has revolves around a prophecy, FAIL!), incoherent, low budget and the acting is not too great even with the line up it has. But still fun nonetheless, for no real reason I can explain. Its so weird you should see it.

You seem to be on stating "low budget" as a negative gimbal?. Some of the best movies i have seen are low budget.

No read it as its Low budget AND it sucks tits for all the reasons I mention The low budget part shows in dodgy CGI (not crappy, but not good either), bad lighting, scenes that could have been far more interesting to see if only there had been more money for a proper decor, uninteresting bad guys due to cheap make up, etc.
