My A4000
I managed to get an A4000 today via Amibay for the cost of Petrol to pick it up! I'm very greatful for the kind chap who registered at Amibay to give his Amiga away instead of taking it to the tip, that would have been a great shame as its in immaculate condition and is fully working, I've set it up with Classic Workbench Full and have also removed the slightly leaking battery and clean up the surrounding area
Its an EC030 with 4mb (+2mb chip) which will be upgraded to 16mb in the next few days. Will be using it as WHDload machine for now in the spare room until cash permits some upgrades I've attached a couple of pics, its only setup this way to fit on the small desk and becuase there is a huge modulator at the back lol, will have it setup properly at some point soon... Oh if anyone can give me advice on one point... I don't get a picture from RGB scart (just a black screen) but the picture is fine on Composite via the Modulator. Scart lead is working with my other Amiga's. Thanks, Steve. Last edited by fitzsteve; 14 July 2010 at 23:13. |

I actually just read that thread on AmiBay last night.. Was extremely cool of the guy, and you totally lucked out there. I hope you took him to lunch or bought him a beer or something...
We don't use scart here in the US, so can't really help ya there, but check out classic WB Advanced, personally, I think it looks a lot nicer than full. And with AGA on a 4000, u can run ADV SP, which is really a nice step up... Congrads again on the great find... |

Thanks guys.
Tried another scart (on the 1084 this time) and its working now @Info-Seeker, I love the ADV/ADV SP packs but not great on the 1084 as Interlaced on that screen is like flickerfest 2010 Maybe at some point this machine will get some upgrades though, watch this space. Steve. |

Nice one Steve, that is so much better than not being used or going on a journey to the tip that it would have otherwise had. I don't know what the difference between this model and the tower one in the Ebay section is, except the Ebay one is BUTT ugly to look at and it looks like its a photocopier wanna be

Well you guys probably guessed it wouldn't stay standard for long...
Pics to follow once the parts arrive (still have to pay for one of them, just waiting for pay day!) Waiting for a Budda Flash from my good friend Cosmic Frog Buying an Apollo 4040 from Amibay will be maxing that out with 128mb of Ram, 40mhz is good for about 30 mips Will be setting up Dual CF's on the native IDE for now and the CD Rom on the SCSI or Budda, depending on which drive looks best in the machine! And next month... or sooner if I can bag a cheap one, looking out for a 20' ish LCD TV in white to sit on top of the A4k Will take lots of pics Steve. |

Nice one fitzsteve, that was a very lucky find, amazing that it looks in such good condition too, amazing that people are thinking of throwing an Amiga 4000 like that into the bin. I would be lying if I said I wasn`t jealous hehehe, ahh someday I can dream ... dream of an A4000 in my house.

I am really pleased Steve,
Its great to see that A4000 has found such a loving home!!! wow an Apollo4040 @ 40mhz eh? thats quite a coup too... should easily plumb about 32MIPS outa that puppy!!! thats a Super Class Amiga =) by my guestimation (<25MIPS = productivity and > 70MIPS Hyper Class) I think Chain managed to get his Apollo 4060 to 100Mhz - thats about 105 - 115 MIPS ... yeah... .... still a little breathless from that too!!! Good luck with this little beauty of yours, I am looking forward to the pics =) |

Thanks for all the reply's and kind words guys
I think I may go the indivision route, going to use OS3.9 on this one Will look nice via Scart on an LCD screen with 640x512 anyway, having the RTG on the A1200T means I probably wont go that way so the Indi may be the perfect choice. Steve. |

Hey guys, I forgot to mention I took a 99p gamble on this auctions yesterday:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWNX:IT Do we think that Ram will work on the Apollo 4040? Its FPM Ram and I'm sure I've used a stick of that in my Apollo 1240... I have a few 32's already but like the idea of a matching set... Cheers fella's Steve. |

50:50 gamble.
It is definitely FPM RAM but these SIMMS are from a SERVER and not regular workstation SIMMS. If it just has parity then it should work (parity will be ignored). If it has something like ECC (?) then it wont. FPM (Fast Page Mode) is the type of chips on the SIMM. They are certainly the most compatible with Classic Amiga hardware. The type of SIMM is what is important when it comes to using ones from a SERVER. Last edited by alexh; 01 July 2010 at 15:16. |

I'd gamble on - No.

Oh and looking at the height of them... you might not be able to fit onto an A4040 and then get it into the A4000 with a 5.25 drive fitted. |

Thanks for the Info Alexh, would I risk damaging the Apollo if I tried them?
Cheers, Steve. |

I googled and got the same information but I'm not sure it matches the photo of the SIMMS from the eBay auction.
