You should take a dark background. The brightness should be a mix between the first and second posted dark backgrounds (first one is too dark and the second could make text in some sections harder to read i.e. this one must be a bit darker). Don't really like bright backgrounds...

just out of interest are you including the cd32 version & the floppy version of the chaos engine intro? I seem to recall them being very different

I don't get why so many of you want them like that. It's a menu, not a poster. The background picture should be in the background, yet by making it so saturated it becomes part of the foreground, thus taking the focus away from the main point of a menu: the actual menu options. The background should give a flavour of the menu category.

@FromWithin

Exactly, I mean I did develop them origonally to be lighter so it was a background image but since you guys are the people who will be viewing the backgrounds its only fair we decide upon your opinions.

@Bippy

I could centre it for you but it would mean the monitors could overlap the logo's, it will look better if you do it by eye because on a TV you wont notice it, well thats in my opinion anyway.

I dunno where this thread is going or what the point of the original question really was seeing as what we was seeing was not the "complete picture".

Draw us a mock up of the background/foreground combined (i.e. the complete screen/menu) as YOU think they should look and we'll tell you if we like or not - wether too dark, too bright, too blue, too green or whatever !
