What is the best C software for Amiga

Hi Guys,
I am looking for the best C software compiler/software for the amiga for OS type work including access to the serial port etc. I used to code in Amos many moons ago, have moved on to C on the PC and hobby MCU (PIC /AVR) projects i what to use the amiga as a serial host controller for one of my electronic home automation projects, what would you guys suggest?

There is no best C compiler for the Amiga. GCC, vbbc and SAS/C would be adequate for what you are wanting to do. SAS/C is not free and GCC is difficult to setup so I would recommend vbbc for getting started fast on a small project. It also has the best 68k assembler ever which might be useful for your project.

Vbbc does not come with an editor or debugger so I would recommend your favorite editor, preferably with ARexx, and BDebug from the Barfly package for the debugger.

I use vbcc so I can dev on linux, cross compile with vbcc and output either 68k or ppc! nice.
