riva

I noticed that the latest RiVa version is from 2004.
Should we consider it discontinued ? If so, it can safely be distributed via "The Zone".

It's an MPEG-1 video player for m68k Amigas, see here for more.

@amiga: I wouldn't assume anything as the program's registration site is still up.

Stephen Fellner, who is responsible for creating RiVa, has switched to AmigaOS 4.0 and he develops DvPlayer. RiVa is discontinued but author has not abandoned community.

@OddbOd:

Yeah, I noticed! One question arises though:

Why are we supposed to buy a product the latest version of which, dates back to 2004 ??
You aren't thinking the author is making money by selling software for a dead platform, aren't you ?? (Yes, the Amiga is dead, despite what fanatics in other forums may think)!

@amiga

What do you mean by saying "Amiga is dead"? Is it a human whose life symptoms are not responding? Did one day all the computers which left the factory stop working? My Amiga works fine and I still buy some things to it. I don't see it being dead and I am glad that there are some people who create something for it. In case of Stephen Fellner you can't forbid him selling his program even though he is not developing it. It is his choice to make it freeware not yours or anybody else (no matter what you think of Amiga or in general).

I assume he means that it's commercially dead (which is true of course amd probably has been the case for 10-12 years at least). However other than that I agree with you.

If someone is still developing software for the Amiga, in whatever form, in their own time, then if you want their product you should BUY it, not take the piss by stealing it.
