Can't install Turrican (Rainbow Arts)

Using the Turrican installer from the WHDLoad webiste but cannot get it to install the game from my original English Rainbow Arts version Installing from an A1200/030 32mb with OS3.9.

It asks for the disk in DF0: and I click the mouse then the installer reads the disk but randomly stops reading with the drive spinning and have to reset. Tried 5 times now and the same thing happens, think this could be my dodgy internal drive and there is no option to use DF1:!!

I know I can download full game installs from elsewhere but I'd like to make the install from my own copy of the game if possible.

Any ideas?

maybe asking a rewrite for a rawdic slave...... which will allow to read an MFM file or install for the original disk.

I personally don't like too much customs protected disk reader programs.

I tried my spare internal drive from AmigaKit and that does the same thing, it just randomly stops reading and produces garbage on the screen forcing a reset.

Took out the 030 board and Workbench just croaks and won't load due to no fastmem and all the crap I've got loading. Booted from a WB3.0 disk and ran the installer but WHDLoad complains of no shadow ram so gave up and used the pre-installed version, but that crashed on Level 2

Actually Turrican WHDLoad needs no fastram. It works fine with 2 MB Chipram, unless your booted WB doesn't eat too much chipram (i.e. wallpapers, set to 256 colors etc.)

A preinstalled WHDLoad Turrican version doesn't crash, i've played through it several times on my real Amiga with a 1230 card. You've played it with or without your turbo card? What turbo card btw? Could be a hardware/software conflict. There is the NoMemReverse tooltype, which could fix crashes for some cards. Also OS 3.9 might be a problem, who knows.

Just tried again with the pre-install and get this error on level 2 when I run right:

Exception "Line 1111 Emulator" ($2c) at $CCCCCCCC occured.

I'm using a Microbotics M1230 XA with 40Mhz 68EC030 + 16Mhz 68881 + 32mb Fast RAM and before running the game have 1.7mb Chip free!

There should be 1-2 threads about WHDLoad & Microbotics card issues on EAB.

Have now tried NoAutoVec, NoMemReverse, NoCache and the game still crashes on level 2.

Have checked the M1230 XA EEPROM settings with SetXA and they are correct for CPU/RAM but noticed my FPU is 16Mhz with a 16Mhz crystal and the lowest setting available is 20Mhz which is set, the FPU I've had at that speed since I bought it though.

Have run the MBRTest-2 prog with 2 cycles, CHIP/LOCAL RAM selected, all tests but RSCAN/HSCAN (greyed out) selected and no errors detected.

What WHDLoad version? Tried the current 17.2 beta? Other games crashes too? A partially broken archive is possible too.

And as i said: Turrican runs fine without the turbobcard/fastram. You can boot without startup-sequence (press and hold both mouse buttons and turn on the Amiga) and start via shell with the "whdload turrican.slave preload" command if you haven't enough chipram free.

Just tried 17.2 and got a lot further into level 2 before it crashed with the same error as before!! I still had NoAutoVec, NoMemReverse, NoCache set from before so not sure if that caused the crash but haven't got time to test more tonight so will try again without those settings tomorrow.

EDIT: OOPS! I didn't have NoAutoVec, NoMemReverse, NoCache set in the icon, so just had a quick test with them and it crashes with those settings on level 2 within 10-20 seconds, without I played for 2-3 mins!!

I have enough Chip Ram as stated earlier so can't see it being that but I tried booting with no startup-sequence but the game still crashes on Level 2 after some minutes?

I'll take out the accelerator (don't think this doing the card/connector much good) and try again!!

That's what i've meant. Try it without your turbocard. If there are no errors via no startup-sequence but via WB start then it's probably a OS3.9 problem.

Seems to work without the 030 card. Booted with no startup-sequence and played level 2 for more than 5 minutes without any crash, so looks like it's the 030 card! FFS

Might have to file a bug report/core dump and see what happens.

*EDIT* Have now removed the 68881 + crystal and set FPU to NONE with SetXA and changed PSU for my A500 one, game still crashes on level 2 Tried NoAutoVec, NoMemReverse, NoCache. Think I have the 'NoLuck' option permanently on with this board

Have now submitted a Bug report to the author!!

*EDIT 2* Have now tried the Innerprise version (SPS 1838), with the same crash/error on level 2

Just an update, I managed to get the game working using NoAutoVec and NoVBRMove. Played a good 15 minutes and no obvious problem but now can't use F10 to exit the game, which kinda defeats the purpose of WHDLoad really

Never tried NoVBRMove before as I wanted to exit back to Workbench, but it did that anyway when it crashed So now I can play the game but have to reset after each session.
