Starting the hardware list so please hit me up with what you have and how well it works. Detail is nice but don't feel like it's required. Preferably what the motherboard supports (nic, audio, number of PCI slots) and if you have a GFX card and is it hardware accelerated or builtin/vesa-1 modes. Same for sound cards or network cards.

Thanks for any input. I'm wanting real use hardware

Here's an example of some of what I've done.
--------------------
Motherboards:
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L MB - Socket LGA775 (3 PCI slots)

USB

Asus A8N-E MB - Socket 939 (3 PCI slots)
Chipset Type NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra
IDE (kernel 3 and 4)
USB
NIC - 1 GB

GA-MA790FXT-UD5P MB - Socket AM3 (2 PCI slots)
Chipset Type - North Bridge: AMD 790FX - South Bridge: AMD SB750

USB

Gigabyte GA-M52L-S3P MB - Socket AM2 (4 PCI slots)
Chipset Type - NVIDIA nForce 520LE

Asus K7V MB - Slot A (5 PCI slots, 1 AGP)
Chipset Type - VIA Apollo KX133
IDE (kernel 3 and 4)
USB

Video Cards:
Nvidia FX 5500 PCI 256 MB (hardware accelerated)

In 2012 I tested a Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 (Socket 939) Motherboard that worked for USB with 3.10 , for sound I used a SB128 card and Video was with a Nvidia GS7800 in VESA mode.
I plan to attempt a build with an ASUS A7N8X-E Motherboard within the week.

Thanks, your NVidia GS7800, what interface was it (AGP, PCI, PCIe)?

Nvidia Geforce 8400M
and a SSD

And I get Amithlon it not to run, what am I doing wrong?

Graphics Cards:
------------------
GeForce 4200Ti AGP: full acceleration

GeForce 4 Ti AGP: full acceleration

DIAMOND Stealth S120 AGP 256M (ATI Radeon 9550) - (I *think* this was full acceleration, can't remember)

Sound Cards:
----------------
Creative Labs SoundBlaster Live! EMU10K - supported by AHI via OpenPCI (had to disable pciinsmod to avoid driver conflict)

Network Cards:
---------------------
Realtek RTL8139D - support via OpenPCI driver

Linksys USB200M - USB->ethernet adapter with Poseidon/ArakAttack and usbasixeth.device driver (had to type in that device manually, even though no file existed on the harddrive...weird). This adapter was slower and less stable than the PCI Realtek card

Too much ram. Amithlon only supports 1 GB. There have been the rare occasions that certain boards have supported 2 GB (single stick) but for the most part, use (2) 512 MB chips or (1) 1 GB chip. The 8400M isn't supported either but "may" work in vesa modes.

Does anyone know if kernel4 sound cards are supported without pciinsmod in the kernel (not via OpenPCI)?

I'm still having issues running pciinsmod when kernel 4 is loaded. Still getting the message that Linux side component is missing.

Thanks!

Have you updated the drivers for Kernel 4? Looking at the pci_modules file that goes in S: and is called by pciinsmod (without any parameters), the Soundblaster ID's are commented out and shouldn't load.
Creative Labs vendor ID is 0x1102 and device ID is 0x0002 (Sound Blaster audigy! (Also Live! 5.1))

pci_modules file contains:

#1102 0004
#1102 0002
# sound/soundcore.o
# sound/acore/snd.o
# sound/acore/snd-page-alloc.o
# sound/acore/snd-pcm.o
# sound/acore/snd-timer.o
# sound/acore/oss/snd-pcm-oss.o
# sound/acore/oss/snd-mixer-oss.o
# sound/acore/snd-rawmidi.o
# sound/acore/seq/snd-seq-device.o
# sound/pci/ac97/snd-ac97-codec.o
# sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1x.o

and the SB 128 is commented out as well
#######################################
# SB128 --- commented out #
#######################################
#1102 8938
#1274 5880
#1274 1371
# sound/soundcore.o
# sound/acore/snd.o
# sound/acore/snd-page-alloc.o
# sound/acore/snd-pcm.o
# sound/acore/snd-timer.o
# sound/acore/oss/snd-pcm-oss.o
# sound/acore/oss/snd-mixer-oss.o
# sound/acore/snd-rawmidi.o
# sound/acore/seq/snd-seq-device.o
# sound/pci/ac97/snd-ac97-codec.o
# sound/pci/snd-ens1371.o

pciinsmod shouldn't be loading drivers for your Soundblaster, do you have onboard audio that needs to be disabled in the BIOS?

Here's my system with SoundBlaster Live and kernel 3. The kernel drivers are ignored as the SB driver is in the kernel itself. Pciinsmod is showing the network card only.

Here's a start for hardware. Once I go through the threads and see what others have used successfully I'll add them and then start breaking thing out as fully supported (ide/sata/audio/nic for motherboards) and accelerated (video card) vs. what people have used (needing additional cards for network/audio and if video is builtin/vesa).

I have an old Compaq Presario 700 laptop that runs kernel 3.10.....also kernel 4 boots but never had time to solve the issues with drivers...something with the Linux side...

Anyway, onboard ide works (CD/DVD and HD), floppy works, USB works, NIC works, video is vesa only....the only thing that I cannot get to work is the audio...should be AC97 compatible but never managed to get it up and running...

PDF or HTML? PDF means you get all the pics included and HTML often relies on them being hosted at some free hosting site.. then 2 years later they just become deadlinks

OK
I have tested now (first i replace the 2x 2GB Ram with 1x 1GB)

Tested with kernel310 and kernel4

With nvidia grafik i have no luck... (all LEDs blinking, no bouncing ball)
With Intel Grafik i have this.....

Is that booting from the CD or your hard drive. That looks like you used smallird.gz instead of bigird.gz (loadlin @small vs. loadlin @amithlon). Usually you get that screen because it doesn't see the HD and is just sitting at the "Insert Workbench Disk" kickstart screen (without syncing the display).

bigird.gz (loadlin @amithlon) boots with an embedded "workbench" partition to allow you to partition your virtual HD (or real HD) depending on your setup, and then of course installing OS 3.9 and setting the partition bootable.

Actually a Google Doc. I have my own domains and have it published on one which allows me to edit it as a Google Doc and the updates/changes are automatically made available. I also exported it as a .pdf and .docx as well, and have them available on my site....though I have to go back and manually save and then upload them to my site if I need to make any corrections or addtions, etc..

Plus the Google Doc allowed for animated .gif images to be animated (PC, Android phone, iPhone, etc..)

I understand the deadlinks frustration.....when you've found what you are looking for but the link included is no longer valid. I've run across a lot of those searching Amithlon stuff.

I have copy all Files (smallird, birgid, small, amithlon, kern310, kernel4) to HD and start with loadlin @amithlon.....

I've followed your instructions

Hmm...hard to tell. Specs show the display is 1280x800 so you can try editing "amithlon" and changing the vga=769 to vga=867 and see if that helps.

You can also make the change above and remove the video=dovesa as another test.

See if booting into the device's BIOS and if you can change the SATA controller to "legacy" or "ide mode" or something similar.
While in the BIOS, can you specify the amount of video ram for the Intel GMA X3100? If you can, lower it to 128 MB or 256 MB instead of it's max 384 MB.

Unfortunately not all systems will be able to run Amithlon. I have an HP laptop and couldn't get Amithlon to boot on it. Thanks for the feedback as I know I need to add some trouble shooting tips for situations like yours.

Does it boot from CD into Amithlon or does it error the same as above?
