Sometime in early September. Looks like loads of commodore fun, plus some classic SID artists

I've booked my ticket, so let me know if you need a lift from up Sheffield way down to Brighton, as I will be offering lifts!

no sweat dudes! as i say, i've ordered my tickets already and it looks like it will be a blast! i'm not sure of my plans yet, but i'll probably stay over in a hotel / b&b for the Saturday night before driving back. May go down the day before too, since they're organising a footy match and drinking retro chat session in a pub on the Friday night too.

might i suggest an EAB meetup there!

If you want to see what the last "Back in Time Live" was like then check out Cody's FTP. I've uploaded an mpg taken from a local tv news report (Midlands Today) about it. It's worth a look if you don't know what Back in time is all about. The news report also features a small interview with C64 legend Kenz.

It also features interviews with SID maestro's Ben Dalglish and David Whittaker. I wish I could have been there.

Hubbard was a pioneer, but his music cannot compare to more recent musicians.

BTW, the man too see there is Jeff Minter and his amazing VLM show. This is one of the most amazing things you can see. Total psychedelia. You can also ask him about his new project, Unity. I wish I could meet the guy again !

No, I'm not, and I'm not comparing him to newer artists, I compare it to others contemporary to him.

His tunes are enjoyable and in no way BAD tunes, they ARE good, but I think most of the worshipping going around of Hubbard is because of pure nostalgia. I took a listen to many things he did outside of the Comomdore 64, and they were just APPALING.

Chris Huelsbeck is, IMO, a MUCH more talented man. So is Jeroen Tel.

The coders like to give Hubbard much credit because he wrote his own music routine. So did others. And Tim Foillin, who is an ARSE because he dissed the scene, still is a brillianr music. Most people say he's shite because he didn't wrote the musicroutine. FFS, he's a muso, he's not supposed to code if he doesn't want to!

I'm not mentioning current C64 musicians, since they go through the path these masters carved for them. There are a lot of current C64 musucians that are incredible.

And that's all I have to say about Rob Hubbard

Why is this guy a legend? Because he made an ass of himself in that UK TV show? Or because he is a friend of Bouff? :P

I don't think he contributed anything to the C64, at least not as much as to be a "legend".

But no no no. Rob Hubbard did some amazing stuff. It's not a nostalgia thing. Some of the stuff is musical and technically very impressive. Even his rip-offs are better than the originals (Zoids, Master Of Magic, Commando, Delta). And listen to The Human Race. It's two channel music, but listen to the arrangement of the tunes. Chris Huelsbeck did great stuff on the Amiga, but it took him years to get to grips with pro studio gear. His earlier CDs were pretty dreadful. Haven't heard any of Jeroen's recent stuff. Once the technical limitations were removed, most musicians were simply piss-poor. In fact, the only person I would put outside this bracket is Tim Follin. Rob stopped doing music years ago. Not sure who's side you are on here, it's difficult to tell. Are you pro-Tim Follin, or anti-Tim Follin? Rob hubbard, good coder. Tim Follin, brilliant coder. Have you heard his Spectrum 5-channel stuff? It's amazing. And you've got some nerve there calling him an arse because he's a top bloke. He's is a musician purely for the music's sake. The scene is not at all interesting to him. BTW, he recently did the music on Starsky & Hutch. It's pretty damn impressive, as is all of his recent stuff.

Anyway. Rob Hubbard is a pioneer. He gets a lot of praise for what he did, and deservedly so.
