If you buy the 3.3v version of any regulator that's all they will output 3.3 volts . In regards to 3 or 5A the device powered by the regulator will only draw the amount of amps needed to do it's thing.

If it only needs to draw 2A for example that's all it will draw, you can't force the extra unused amp into the device.

The 5A version may be required if you say wanted to run the CPU at a lot higher speed, the board might need the extra power then. The voltage will still be the same.

my bad! i've read 5V instead of 5A. Thanks for the clarification.
btw, i have soldered the VRM and its working fine! The VRM on the Mediator is now a lot cooler. I have also installed a CS MKII with SCSI Kit.
Overall power usage of the system is still 78Watts. I am pretty happy with the setup. It runs pretty cool and quiet without no need for any modification on the case.

You DO have the wire going to the C21 GND pad right on the left hand side of the VRM? Right?

but have a look at this. I have bought a Cyberstorm MKII which arrived earlier today.
The card is working, but AFAIK these (burned) diodes are supposed to protect the 060 from overloading. The pads are completely gone. I'll probably send it back as i'm not sure if this is fixable.
The seller didnt mention this of course. I paid a fortune for this crap. I was expecting a flawless card, but instead i got this.

Ouch. There were no photos before you bought it?

Also good luck with the discussion on a1k.

there was a photo, but it was shot from far away and it didnt look suspicious. without clearly hinting at it, no one wouldve recognized that there could be something wrong.

Now i also read that those diodes are not mandatory. The card will still work without these. What a mess...

Wow. Well you don't want that board, I'll trade you a perfectly serviceable A3640 with 060 adapter I wonder if someone plugged an 040 into it?

Final post on this: a Mediator on an A500 is not going to work. Having contacted Jens (who was very helpful), in short, all the cool hardware that the ACA500+ brings (like the CF cards) conflicts with the memory space of the mediator and the only potential way round it would be to turn off the extra hardware and hope the remaining mem the ACA500+ uses doesn't conflict with the Mediator jumpered to a 4MB window. Jens cautioned that just plugging it all in together risked damaging something, so it's all gone back to the donor machines. Shame about that...

Nexus, I'd love it if you managed to get it to work. But, for example, I was unable to stop the hardware conflicts preventing the Aux CF from working at all, which according to Jens is A Bad Sign.

A picture of my A1200 workbench. Not much more is working at the moment. Talking to Elbox still.
