Easier thing to do getting the AmigaOS 4.x source code of Cannonball, remove SDL and optimize it once ported.

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/301862677492

Well, the only technical reason why Outrun is a terrible port is they coded it like s***. Imagine it with the Lotus routines, that is what it should have been.

As you can imagine, this has been suggested more than once in this thread.
You can look at this whole thing in a couple of different ways. Let's pick 3...

First one: to prove that OutRun could have been much better on a Vanilla A500. Kind of an interesting challenge in it self. But surely doable as most ppl agree the original was crap.
Second one: To make a better version of OutRun on an accelerated or expanded Amiga. Challenging in a different way. More power available but going for arcade perfection will still challenge most Amigas.
Third one.. to port a disassembled version of the original ROM and add brute force to your Amiga until it runs adequately.

Porting a disassembled version of the original rom ?

This won't be possible. The engine from what i've seen has many parts working on the custom chips of the arcade board.

Next, the graphics of Outrun are stored as bitmap chunky, not Bitmap Planar.

This means converting all the sprites back to Planar.

I probably chose my words poorly. I was referring to efforts like "Cannonball" which is a actually a reverse engineered re-write in C++ but it does use the original ROMs.
As for chunky mode.. No problem if you choose a brute force approach and make it require RTG. I was suggesting in an earlier post that the Vampire would be a good platform for a perfect port since you would have a fast CPU, Chunky high color display and MMX instructions for the bitmap scaling routines.

Every Vampire user can also be an RTG user.
So its plenty of ppl, soon to be a lot of ppl.
If you don't have RTG or Vampire, the go play Lotus instead :-)

Tried Cannonball today and it is indeed very impressive at 60fps + all its other enhancements. Who needs an Amiga conversion if you can get this freebie moreover not requiring much power?

Well.. you're not wrong.. but that logic can be applied to a lot of things in Amigaland :-)
Vampire, impressive as it is, is still basically PC performance from the mid 90s. So it would still be a "fun challenge" for the properly motivated programmer.

And maybe you wanna play it with your favorite Amiga joystick on your a600 for old times sake ;-)
(Default controls in Cannonball are pretty awful btw.)

And I play most 80s MAME games using that adapter with my modified 2 button CP5000. Great fun!

Toni Galvez on Facebook made me note that Outrun Europa got a decent engine and with some hacks should be made look like the orignial, however there are a bit of differences in the gameplay to be tweaked.

Yes, Outrun Europa could be cool if You only skip water levels and change bike sprites into car ones.

Not a coder, but i think that - unless some former probe employee provides it - guess reverse engineering and hacking might be the best option; however, despite OE provides most of the engine perks it might not be simple; for Turbo Outrun things seems more handy since there are similarities in playability, while for traditional outrun booster and adversaries will need to be turned off.

By the way i opened another brainstorm thread here.

Well OE engine had most of chase hq features including bump counter and nitro so maybe could be tweaked too?
