I need to source a larger test tank before I start more trials, I also need another couple of litres of 35% H2O2 from work, it's lucky that we have it in one tonne IBCs then....
@ rkauer TAED can be made from Ethylene Diamine, Acetic Acid and Acetic Anhydride, I know I can lay hands on two of the three materials at work, a quick spin in the lab in a glass reactor at about 210 celsius under nitrogen and I should have TAED. You make DAED first with the acetic acid and ethylene diamine, then acetylate it again with the anhydride. Kewl..... |

Eheh, better we stop talking about chemistry.
People can think we are cursing someone... BTW: Ethylene Diamine most "famous" son is Dietolamine (EDTA... yeah, that shampoo thing). In plastic industry it is used as mold-release agent, plasticizers and plastic modificator (in conbination with other chemicals). |

Do you mean EDTA (Ethylene Diamine Tetra Acetic Acid)? This is probably the most famous derivative, it's used in water softening, detergents (including shampoos) and chelation of metals.

Blimey, I used Trilom NTA for years in industrial cleaner formulations, small world, eh?
BTW, I reckon I can make a gel version of H2O2 with Hydroxy Ethyl Cellulose (Cellosize) or a latex thickener (Viscalex). If I can get the chance I'll try it next week, things are very busy at work right now though. Last edited by Merlin; 25 July 2008 at 20:31. |

Guess who's blagged some samples of TAED from the UK's largest manufacturer today......??
I'm sure I can spare some once I have the samples, which should arrive early next week. If you want a sample for scientific purposes, let me know, although I don't want 100s of little packets of white powder being posted from my house, if you follow me....... |

OK, the samples arrived this morning....
I now have 1 kilo of TAED to play with... muahahahaha.... The material safety data sheet (always RTFM! ) states that TAED is soluble up to 1.5 grammes per litre, therefore you won't need much at all per batch of peroxide mixture, adding more is just a waste. Remember, I have sourced the neat material, not the Oxy version, which is cut with detergents, surfactants and UV fluorescents, this is the real deal. I have some going out to Zetr0 and Kin Hell, if anyone else wants some, PM me some deets and I will arrange some for you. |

You have to believe me, I'm telling the truth!!! I only wanted the highly toxic and possible explosive compound to clean my old Amiga.

@ spliff
TAED is more or less harmless according to the MSDS sheet, it just has this unusual property of catalysing peroxide reactions, honestly, officer........ |

BREAKING NEWS!
My A1200 has had the peroxide / oxy / bleach / UV treatment for two weeks with the following results.. Nice Grey keys are overcooked. Don't be fooled by the keys still appearing slightly darker in the jar as they whiten whilst drying. Comparison shot But look at this... Discoloured mouse soaked in strong solution of bleach and oxy only (no peroxide) for two hours on Sunday evening and left dry all day yesterday in direct sunlight. I couldn't believe it Last edited by Magno Boots; 23 January 2009 at 20:54. |

The results are truly impressive. One thing that has me wondering though is the darker keys on the keyboard. Earlier this year I opened up a new Amiga 1200 that had been sealed in plastic and in a box and I would describe the darker keys as being a shade of brown whereas the treated keys seems more grey. Is that just the lighting in the photos or are they really grey like that? I think they look really smart in that grey colour...

@gklinger
The keys were originally dirty brown but I obviously left them for too long as they've turned light grey. They do look nice though. I should point out that the top case has been painted and the comparison shot was to show that the keys were the same colour as the bottom half of the case. |
