What happens inside the Amiga when it crashes to reboot? Why the long pause and power led blinking before showing the Guru Meditation?

It's waiting for you to send DEL over the serial port (9600bps 8n1) to start the rom-wack debugger. Afaik you can also start it later by pressing the right mouse button during the guru.

How is that debugger used? I've never heard about it before. Does it open a debugger on the serial port if you right click the guru prompt or was it only special dev ROMS that had this feature?

1.3 has it, newer roms have a lighter one that is called SAD. You ought to google for rom-wack, there is some info available, such as a command list.

What does the "te" command in the Amiga shell do? It's not an alias, resident command, nor a file on the hard drive, but the shell silently accepts it, so what does it do?

Ok it's an ARexx command, I guess it makes sense building it into the shell-handler like that then.

I don`t know if it was a good decision to put the 10 ARexx related commands in a separate directory. Why not put them into C directory? Or maybe "C:Rexxc".

They were moved into the C: directory for OS4. I guess it probably stems from a time when ARexx was a separate package to be bought and installed.

I tend to put my own ARexx scripts in Rexxc so that C: is less cluttered.

Normaly S directory "is" used for scripts but unfortunately several programs use it for their data. So it is full of anything. I use an own directory for my scripts and some are placed in progdirs.

ARexx scripts were originally intended to go in REXX: - they can be executed from there without having to specify a path as RX looks there automatically. For OS4, this was moved to a subdirectory of S: instead of being in the root of SYS:

Question:
Did anyone ever see the CD32 spectrum analyser working? I think it could only have been shown at one of the trade shows introducing it. The ROM CD player was originally intended to play VCDs as well as audio CDs until they were split into two different programs, and the spectrum analyser was also canned for some reason. I have read somewhere they trimmed down the CD drive interface at some stage. Maybe that had something to do with it. |
