About to continue my testing. I only test gears running for a few minutes. But since my earlier tests resulted in instant lockups this is already quite an improvement.

If wanted by you I may test a few combinations for sometime longer. But honestly I'm most likely never gonna run my A4k for that long when actually using, so I'm already happy when it runs stable for a while

So, 284 also works fine now, with and without SetCMemDiv!

It seems my problem was the flaky Picasso screen modes.
With these latest tests I did boot in AGA mode, only ran initppc manually after full boot and loadwb and switched to 640x480x60 PC screenmode manually.

Finally I also tried a 720p screen mode and ran gearsppc windowed and gearsppc small windowed at the same time without issues (without SetCMemDiv envarc)!

Time to install some games now

Edit: grrr and right after posting this the Amiga locked up while running the two demos at the same time. After about 5 minutes or so.

Edit2: AFter the crash I ran a windowed GearsPPC demo for about half an hour without problems in 800x600x60 screenmode without SetCMemDiv.

Between 270 and 284 there have been more changes then only setcmemdiv.
#284 with setcmemdiv 0 has been fine all afternoon for me - 5hrs up time now with no issues with quake, quake2, Hexen 2, Winamp, mame.

I've just downloaded #275 but I can't get it to run at all, even after turning the computer off for several minutes between attempts at running initppc. I'm so far (3 attempts) getting this error:

I think 275 was a failed build that the deficons fix caused that. I got that RAMLib crash too on 275. Try 274 and 278.

I have FINALLY resolved my gearsppc problem on my main OS partition. Turns out I either was using an old or corrupt version (file size 127088). Overwriting this with the version from the MM CD (file size 133192) and everything is fine!

Case closed.

Oops, Grelbfarlk is right.. 275 was a fail. As is 276 and 277. So it is actually indeed the difference between 274 and 278 (implementation DefIcons fix).

Bu then again, it seems you fixed the gearppc issue.

Edit: it is actually the difference between 270 and 278 as 274 is the same as 270. 278 is the same as 275-277 except those crashed :-P

I'll have to check but I 'think' it's one of the MCP tweaks

I'll do more tests on 274 and also test 278.

284 still working ok here

If stuff is ok now, no need to test the older stuff :-)

OK, next step, next issue.

Wipeout crashes. I think it's audio, audio loops...
I don't have AHI installed.

Is this the correct version to install http://aminet.net/package/driver/audio/ahiusr_4.18?

I don't have a soundcard (installed), so I should configure AHI for Paula correct? Some pointers available somewhere?

The installer for 4.18 should just work. After it is installed go into AHI Prefs, set your Music and Device 0 to Paula 8-bit DMA. If you later install SB16 or FM801, set AHI Device 3 to 16-bit HiFi 44khz Stereo then set AmigaAMP to use AHI Device 3. Use AHI units 1-2 for various other settings where 16-bit HiFi is too slow but you want it to sound better than 8-bit.

AmigaAmp needs a Stereo++ mode. So put that one on unit 1 for example.

Pffff, AHI does not fix my issues.

Once in a while Wipeout runs for about 30 secs and then freezes. Most of the time it freezes directly after the title screen "Press error", i.e. when the first screen with 3D rotating stuff appears.

All while GearsPPC still works.

Yes, it took a bit longer to freeze though, couple of minutes. Running on 284 no MMULibs and no SetCMemDiv set.

The machine locks up? Try SetCmemdiv 0.
