After clicking on the "search for hidden doors"-icon it just was grayed out. No message box. I guess this indicates there is a monster behind the corner which we can't see right now yet still belongs to the current area...

At first Elrond tries to equip the battle axe instead of the crossbow. Doesn't work:

So he unequips the shield first and then changes crossbow to battle axe:

Now he hacks the mummy into pieces (pretty effective weapon):

(The scream "Whuaaaarrrgh!" echoes through the maze.)

Afterwards he changes back to crossbow & shield to be able to defend:
