@Thread
In regards to RoHS and Leaded Solder. There are exemptions to RoHS and this applies to upgrades or repairs for equipment placed in service prior to 2002 if memory serves. Such that if the target for the adaptor was produced before 2002 it is exempt from RoHS regulations (according to the European Directive and the HSE) - so is pretty much all high voltage stuff. With that said, its just a subtly different technique with non-leaded solder - just takes a little practice and preparation IMHO =) |

Wow, are you both quibbling about who will maintain the main branch? Hint; open source, so work together |

I've made a bunch of changes which he may not want (renaming the board etc), I don't want to impose those changes if he doesn't want them. If I edit a bunch of things on the board, there's only a single .brd file despite editing different layers, I have no clue what happens if you start chopping and changing the xml content of the .brd file - it may no longer be valid in eagle. |

At some point... when I stop feeling sh*t about this whole project I intend(ed) to factor out /OVR and /INT2 completely (In actual fact /OVR is already more or made less redundant by the way the firmware prevents these cycles getting to the amiga in the first place).
EDIT: If anyone notices that connecting/disconnecting /OVR makes any difference at all i'd like to hear about it. Its most likely a firmware glitch. Last edited by plasmab; 13 April 2017 at 22:27. |

Not a hero. Just someone who decided it was better to make something than wait for perfection. Because that never happens.

Internal IDE controller for Amiga 500
I made some progress on the open source A500 IDE controller I promised I would be working on. I have received the PCB's (from Elecrow BTW) and soldered one up. I made one mistake in the layout so I had to lift one leg on the Cypress chip and install a botch wire on the underside. Nothing serious so far... (fingers crossed ).
The board is a standalone Gayle style IDE controller for the Amiga 500. It reads HDF files from a standard FAT formatted SD card. I hope to program it such that you won't need an _ovr and _int2 patch wires. The board also contains 1Mbyte fast RAM of which I intend to use half a megabyte to load Kickstart 3.1 (which is needed for the Gayle SCSI.device) from the SD card. This way no real 3.1 ROM (which is troublesome on older A500's like mine) is needed. Of course you would need a properly licensed rom file instead. This project will be open-sourced once finished and would make a nice companion to a TF520. However, I am doing this in my own slow pace. I also tend to work in secret so don't expect any blogs, vlogs or other updates anytime soon Happy "building wishes" to the thread, I expect to see some 030 powered Amiga 500's soon! |
