Not really, sorry The supplier of the chip estimates May at the earliest, and they've given lots of dates in the past that have been pushed out again and again. In the meantime I have found a minor bug in the hardware that causes issues with a particular accelerator. I'll have this fixed and tested before May so we'll see what happens during the summer.

What chips are needed? Might be worth a supply-chain re-design? Or maybe someone has stock they can share with you?

The chip it uses is a PIC18F4620. Moving to anything else would require a complete redesign from the ground up (similar chips in the same family either lack features I need or don't have enough flash or RAM space). Which might not necessarily be a bad thing, but at the same time I didn't bother because I could spend months switching to a different chip family, only for supplies of that chip to dry up and I end up with nothing to show for months of my scarce free time.

But, since January, Microchip are still estimating May for deliveries, which would suggest they actually mean it this time. So we'll see what happens this summer.

I almost don't have the heart to ask, but is there anything new? I would really like to get my hands on a Solas board

Well, the chip shortage seems to have eased, which is good news. I'm just putting the finishing touches to a firmware update that fixes a couple of bugs and we'll see if I can organise some boards...

There are a couple of hardware changes too that I'm also testing. One is a slight adjustment to the left edge to better fit with the older Indivision models, and the other is a timing fix that caused issues with certain transfers. This caused issues with certain accelerators, and / or combinations of accelerator and clockport card, e.g. Subway USB and Prisma Megamix boards can be affected.

If you have issues with your board, it can be patched but it's a bit messy. I can swap it for the latest version once I've finalised things and have some available if you'd like.

Thanks guys! The latest firmware is finished (I think) and I need to test it a little bit. Will get a couple of boards out to people who had specific problems with the previous revision for testing and will look at having some more made then.

All the best for the new year!

I wanted to ask gently if there is anything new about the Solas board...

Latest revision board is currently being tested. If no major issues are found with it, I'll do a production run based on that board
