I checked out the schematics for the CD32. It looks like just removing/rerouting R203 is not going to ground pin 41 as the line tees off before reaching R203. The trace would probably need to be cut before the tee split happens and a wire run to ground from the pin41 side of the cut

Ok, thanks for all that Kipper
Next time I open my CD32 I'll look at trying to figure out the traces & do it some other way...I just can't bring myself to lift that leg...not on my beloved CD32 PZ. |

Ok, I knew getting the leg back in would be a b*tch given my lack of equipment, but I said "bugger it", bit the bullet & pulled pin 41 anyway.
Awesome, I'm in PAL territory, so the colour issues aren't there...I now have a PAL (for all intents & purposes) CD32! Go grab those CD32s from China folks, it's go time! PZ. |

Excellent news, told you it wasn't that bad. PAL has so much more software available than NTSC its definately worth doing the mod. Dd you use a safety pin to pull the leg up ?

Heres a nice looking product (at least what it claims to be able to do). It looks like it would solve all the PAL/NTSC conversion issues for all devices.... (Hard to resist... must buy nowwwww

Its not going to make PAL games work on NTSC CD32 and the quality will be rubbish.

Hello all!
New guy here on the block...<-- So, I have read this thread and I have a question about the mod: Is it necessary to do the 'cut off' @ pin 41 on ALICE-chip or is it equally valid to make the cut @ pin 7 on the Encoder-chip CXA1145M? I'm aware of the resistors connected inbetween. Or does the resistors interfere with the signal sent from ALICE and 'bounce' back or something? I would prefer to do the cut @ CXA1145M instead of the ALICE-chip. Thanks, //Eskobar |

I'll check the schematic but i believe there are other components in the circuit behind pin 41 as such that are removed from the circuit by lifting the leg, if you go further downstream and cut at the video chip it may not work. If you do want to try it cut in an area that can be repaired if it doesn't work

If I follow this mod about bending back a pin and grounding it, etc...... that the NTSC CD32 will indeed work in USA as long as the TV I am connecting to supports PAL. If it does, then this mod means the video is fine, the audio is fine, all the PAL games will play fine in USA, no cutoff screens, etc....??? Once this mod is done, can I also connect the CD32 direct to an old Amiga 1080 monitor? Or a 1084 monitor? Or, will the CD32 work WITHOUT mode on a Amiga 1084 monitor today and the only reason to do this update is to connect to larger TV screens? Thanks Thomas |

The CD32 does not have an RGB output, only S-Video & Composite.

Sorry for necrobumping this thread, but I have a PAL CD32 that I would like to switch to NTSC for certain games like Lotus Trilogy. now I know I could go onto the boot menu and do this, but it would be neater wit ha switch.
Anyway, I am pretty sure this won't work with SVideo though, and will give me a black and white, or miscoloured screen. Am I right? |

Hmm interesting about taking RGB that way. I may do an internal mod anyway though. Gotta think about this, RGB is the best.

I did notice that Jungle Strike CD32 will switch an NTSC CD32 into PAL when it boots.
Does anyone know if there was an NTSC release of this for the CD32? I've tried tools like TUDE to switch the system into NTSC and other apps to force NTSC but the game keeps switching the system back to PAL. Even using the early startup to switch doesn't seem to work. Just for the record I have a PAL CD32 but I want to run the game in NTSC mode as it runs smoother. (Tried it on WinUAE). |

Even if you force it, a LOT of games will just not work when forced this way as they are meant to be run in PAL. If the game forces a PAL screen, it's for a reason, and I don't think you can change that if none of the tools you tried have worked (specially TUDE, which usually forces screenmode really well).
