@Pyro: why a Deneb now?

All crazyegg must have to boot from CF is a suitable unit (the one the Flyer refused is perfect) and a IDE 40pin to Compact Flash adaptor.

Preferably one of those who is a back plate holder. Hint!

Your right of course, I just thought the Deneb would be faster than the crap IDE on the A4000.

Of course it would be. But for the money's sake, better to stick with the IDE before thinking in an advanced (and expensive*) device.

*where expensive not means what you get from the card! USB, dual IDE ports, dual clock ports, network using cheap USB>Ethernet, that clip missile thingie... (hey! someone put that drool icon here!)

Hi All,

Thanks for all your tips and advice.

FYI, I am currently using a CF-IDE as my boot drive off the back plane of the A4000 as you suggested. It works great! I can easily swap out the CF and boot it with UAE should I need to modify or add any new programs.

USB Deneb would be great and I see it in my hopefully near future ;-))

I will take some pics and post shortly. Cooling was a big issue but I think I solved it.....hopefully ;-))

Regards...ed

Hi All,

Here are some pics:

This above pictures shows the two extra 12v fans I included to improve cooling. Its a jungle in side due to the 3 50 pin SCSI flatwires. I also installed extra heatsinks on the 'hot' chips on the Flyer.

This above picture shows the side view of the A4000. Note the IDE-CF adapter in the upper left. This is the boot drive and is attached to the backplane of the A4000. Also, the barrel battery on the mb has been replaced with a coin battery. Also note that the Flyer card is connected to the Toaster card with a 20 pin cable. This cable was special ordered from NewTek as it was part of the Toaster header connector.

The above picture shows a 5.25 fan bay which I installed to improve the cool air intake. This cold air also manages to cool the 040 heatsink which I did not put a fan on.

This above picture shows SCSI drives B and C of the Flyer SCSI chain. These are running off a CF/IDE/SCSI Bridge adapter. Its really messy I know...

This above picture shows the back of the A4000. The top card is my IDE/CF boot drive, below that is the Flyer and the Toaster 4000 card is at the bottom. The RGB-VGA adapter I am using is the V3 model which is compatible with the Toaster.

That's it for now!

Regards...ed

Just a final hint: if you can find, grab some old A2091 or other ancient SCSI cable from those old SCSI controllers from A2000 era.

They are very short and so will make the "jungle" disappear.
