RE: http://atariamiga.free.fr/sourisps2_e.php and http://aminet.net/docs/hard/ps2m.lha Yeah, nice one! I'll give you a tenner if you build me one. Save me hunting down a Microchip PIC 16f84, PIC16F627 or PIC16F62. PM if you're interested. |

There's absolutely no rush for this what so ever mate. Simply when you get a moment to have a go at making one. Thanks for the kind offer. (rushs out to buy a new ps2 optical mouse) |

Guys Sorry, i have stopped building this PS2 adapter, but its not all bad news. I have had an idea, and have worked out a way to make a new adapter that will have support for 2 wheels and 5 or more buttons and will only need to use one mouse port. This adapter will not need any drivers to work as a standard mouse with 3 buttons and will work in the early start up screen. Drivers will be needed for the extra wheels and buttons.
The thing is i need a device driver programmer for the Amiga. I'm able to program the pics and make the hardware. but i need help in the Amiga software side of things. Id like all this to be an open and free project so that people here can make there own adaptors. So is anyone willing to help ? Also should i make a new thread for this ? The idea is quite simple, and easy to make. Wheel support and the new buttons will be through one or both of the Analogue joystick inputs in the mouse port. Possibly where the mouse button 3 is connected to, ie PotX. Simply by putting different voltages on the port to signal events such as button press or a wheel movement on this port we can tell the mouse driver to send Newmouse events out. For example: Mouse Button 3, zero volts, ground. Wheel 1 Turned up,0.8V Wheel 1 Turned down,1.6V Wheel 2 Turned up,2.4V Wheel 2 Turned down,3.2V Button 4,4.0V button 5,4.8V These voltages can be read from the A-d Converter in the Amiga by the driver and converted to mouse events. At the moment this is only an idea and i need a programmer to help. So anybody want to help me ?? Also ideas and modification are welcome, you can also tell me this will never work and i will stop here, but i think its possible. Last edited by Dimlow; 14 September 2008 at 23:33. |

Well, Its taken me a couple of weeks, but i have now built and tested the new PS2 mouse adapter i have been working on. I'm glad i bought that Logic analyzer as i had a few timing problems to start with. butt.....
Its so nice to use the Amiga with an optical ps2 mouse! Its still not finished yet, as i only finished writing the software for the pic 10 minutes ago. as it stands it only works as a normal mouse, but the hardware has the ability to use two wheels and five buttons. It only uses one mouse port! It will also have options of changing the resolution of the mouse on power on by holding the middle mouse button down. One advantage of my new design is that only protrudes out from the back of the 1200 by about 10-15 mm and with the ps2 cable plugged in it takes up the same space that the original Amiga mouse plug. So no big chunky adaptor hanging out the back to break Last edited by Dimlow; 06 October 2008 at 00:16. |

Thank you!
I'm surprised no one has commented on my dodgy soldering on this. Anyway ill make excuses now. Its a prototype and i was in a rush to get it finished before i went to bed, so i never took much care in how it looked. So which one of you great guys can do me a driver for this ? I could do it my self but it would take me a while as i have to learn new compilers and how to program the Amiga. |

Well, i don't have all the parts for them now, but i could knock a few up i guess.
I didn't get very far with the wheel mouse part of it, It only works as a normal mouse right now, i need a little help with the software side of things on the Amiga before it will happen. Also i would like someone else to verify my design, I'm not 100% sure that the wheel mouse part will work. I did some tests using the analogue inputs on the Amiga but they seem quite noisy But what i can say is that it works great with an optical mouse and the software inside the pic chip is 95% done. The mouse is very responsive and oodles better than the standard mouse. Still looking for volunteers ( Anybody ? ) |

It continues to amaze me just how many people are 'knocking up' all these Amiga related hardware pieces.
From mouse adapters and flicker fixers to full blown new Amiga motherboards! I'm not sure how hard you're little adapter was to make but if they are 100%, then you could easily sell these things on ebay for a profit. I'm pretty sure 80% of Amiga owners would be interested for their main machines or other less used Amigas which they do not feel grant a Cocolino. Great work Dimlow! EDIT: Just wondering if you have tested it with any games yet? |

erm, Thanks guys.
Ok, yea its works with ALL Games that use a mouse, Has very low lag if any at all. USB connector, yea, great idea easy mod for this. I could sell on ebay, but this does not have a case and that was not my intention, i just do this for the fun of it. Maybe there is a possibility of getting some boards made up from a PCB producer. I have never done that before,but i have had a look at suppliers. They all seem expensive unless you go for high quantities. Still , and again i need someone to write some software for the Amiga, i know what is needed and it don't seem to hard to do. There has to be someone that can do this. But yet i have no offers. Oh well I'm in no rush. |

I'm not interested in wheel support to be honest. I want a way to be able to use modern mice on my Amiga without the need for drivers. Just my 2ps worth. A little kit of PCB and components would suit me (no case). But again just my opinion on what I want (being selfish!).

@Dimlow:
Great bit of work there ol' chap. Not for everyone I admit, but looking @ the small size of your PCB I'd like to see if I could squeeze it inside a PS2 / (USB) mouse with an Amiga mouse cable going direct to the miggy... ...ok, pretty pointless, but neat. or Shove your adapter inside a receiver for a wireless mouse. |
