Yeah, I know Banshee is AGA but even AGA machines can use non-AGA screen modes right?

Fusion http://hol.abime.net/637 (sorry to dig up an old thread)
Researching HB games at the moment

Some info on HB modes here which also points out Agony uses it in the loading screens.

My own game, Brainbow, used EHB for the pointer and game overlay, I just thought it was the best way of keeping all 32 colours and not wasting any for the pointer, and it looks cooler too, having a semi-transparent overlay!

Talking about non in-game graphics i did level loading screens for Powder in EHB but the only ones to be used were on Game Over and end of the game

The ones i still have are visible here in my blog:
The Powder Diaries – 5 – Road to somewhere

Although it probably qualifies as the inverse of the thread title, M1 Tank Platoon used EHB for some reason on the cutscenes.

I think what you did on the titlescreen was quite a bit nicer than the Mega CD version.

Definitely a demo effect if ever there was one

Actually, Core only did an Amiga version of this because I claimed I could knock it out in 8 weeks.... actually took 12 weeks in the end... and a lot of late nights and 72hour weekend shifts

Even the theme tune has a demo-like quality to it.

thats because it was written by Nuke/Spaceman formerly of Anarchy or whatever group Dan was in at the time

In fact one of the Core games has an actual demo tune in it from the end part of Seeing is Believing demo by Anarchy.

Nuke/Spaceman aka Martin Iveson; its musics were darn good but the technical side of it is equally awesome!

you can but what's the point of using EHB on AGA machines. You have the extra palette registers available so an extra bitplane will give you 64 colours which you can have complete control over instead of the exact same 6 bitplanes only giving you 32 colours you have complete control over in EHB.

There's at least one advantage: If you want only shadows, you get the second palette half automatically - can be handy if you change colors a lot e.g. with the copper as you need only half of the color changes compared to a regular six bitplane mode.

Thanks everyone for your contributions and insight into various games.

I stumbled across Enemy: Tempest of Violence http://hol.abime.net/2856 | [ Show youtube player ] that seems to use halfbright quite nicely for player shadow. The copper background effect with shadow added is interesting also.

The developers website here http://www.anachronia.ch/

Besides games, I am experimenting with halfbright mode and colour cycling at the same time (see attachment).

Unless of course the effect you need is more than 32 colours per scanline at any point on the screen at 50fps
