Better Maths - School Software Ltd. - 1 Disk

Amiga Junior Typist - School Software Ltd. - 1 Disk

Uploaded to the zone. Could not get them to work in both emulators. Help

As I am using 720k PC Disks to transfer I decided it would be best to dms the disks so they would fit. Could someone please check to see if they are faulty, before I continue with the rest, using this method. Thanks

Very cool - thanks, Paul! I got three of the disks to convert to ADF using DMS2ADF, and the last one that wouldn't convert un-DMS'd fine from AmigaDOS (Better Maths). The disks appear to be fine, looking at them in Directory Opus. I am just now trying to get them to run and will report if I have any luck.

The DMS route seems to be working good!

Yeah, the disks appear to be good, but the software (two of them written in Amiga Forth) are really picky. Better Maths and Junior Typist just crashed when booting; Word and Numbers went to the title screen, but no futher, and finally Kids Type seemed to work, but I bailed after the title screen. Andreas, you wanna work on these?

Can't do any more ATM the A500+ went black and won't bootup.

It had a red screen yesterday.

Tried powerpack in A600HD and came on but HD is stuck.

BTW try them in winfellow

Yikes! I hope the A500+ is OK!

I was gonna try them in WinFellow, but I was already close to being late for work, so I wasn't able. Tonight for sure.

This is super-duper, Paul. What a wonderful dumping of cool rarities! I think I am gonna go down to the kindergarten and invite them over for a round of Weather Watchers. It's an edutainment frenzy at EAB this week!

RIP to your A500+...at least the A600 is still alive and well.

As usual, if you need anything posted, lemme know.

I have to admit that the title of this thread gave me a bit of a chuckle, mainly because they didn't HAVE any edu-tainment titles when I was in school. That may have something to do with PC's not having yet been invented, I suppose.

I don't often go & ressurect old threads,& particulary my own, but since we've had some newer members come on to EAB I thought I should reactivate it.
Anyone else out there has any old programs/games that were supposedly "educating" us in school then?
I recall another one to add to my ones of Raft Away River & Gold Dust Island, Sheep Dog Trial.
You had a grid arrangement & had to herd the sheep back in.
If in two player mode the sheepdogs got too close, they'd start fighting!!

Yes and I live on the Oregon Trail, or should I say the end of the Oregon Trail is more accurate

As for my memories of edutainment, well we had a lab full of CPM boxes, the Trash 80's, can't remember wether they were the model I, III or 4's but I remember the geeks, whom called themselves Aardvarks :laugh hogging the machines 24 x 7 Of course this was back in the mid 70's and my time in high school is really best forgotten

I seem to recall my Fairchild Channel F having some edutaintment Video Carts, but I can't be sure, it seems to be long gone now :eek

Thumbs up

I don't remember the system too clearly, but I suspect it was a BBC micro of some sort... nor the year in particular, early in secondary school sometime it was... there was this program see, it was supposed to be teaching us basic economics, or maybe it was supposed to be agriculture... anyway, it was a "farming" program; You had 4 fields I think, and were supposed to grow various crop types in them, in order to make a profit. It had some sort of yield variable programmed in, and we were expected to rotate the crops in order to avoid soil nutrient depletion. However, we very quickly discovered that growing "grass" in every single field, all year around led to the most profits. Perhaps it was those EU subsidies for cutting production those farmers like to complain about getting! I like to think of it as one of the epithanies that led me to question all assumptions people hold; You see... Our teacher was wrong, although that wasn't the lesson I think they wanted to teach us!

In 1990 sometime, my school upgraded to Acorn Archimedes. When I reached the 6th Form, they'd let us stay in the computer room playing Lemmings and Virus on the machines, even during other peoples lectures, if there were computers spare, and we'd keep the "Oh No's!" down to a responabile level. There was some sort of golfing game as well, which we used to have tournaments on for the best score... until one of us discovered that hitting the ball exactly straight at full power flew the ball perfectly on to the green, where it then hit the flag, rolled down the flag pole, and into the hole for a hole in one. Every time! Sadly, I was unable to apply this lesson, or even interest, to real life golf...
