yeah.... kinda put it in a confusing way....
A psu has multiple output voltages as you know. most provide the following +12 -12 +5 -5 +3.3 now All the connection s from the PSU use these voltages. if there is a HIGH draw ( a lot of devices using ) a particular line (say 5volt) then the PSU has to struggle harder to maintain that voltage. cheaper PSU's are pretty crap at maintaining a highdraw and suffer voltage loss due to cheaper components / design. we mention the 5v line as its most taxed (especially on an amiga) the 5v powers the motherboard, and ALL the cards / adapters / accelerators (very hungry devices!) hope this info is usefull in shifting that confusion. |

I am looking for one too! But can't find any decent name brand mATXs anywhere. Those $30 mATXs look nasty. Are we better off with an ATX PSU then?
What is the best way to test for the voltage output while the computer is running? I have a multimeter, but used it years ago, and don't want to damage the ami. Any guides anywhere? |

with the machine ON, and running something AGA, I just took a molex from the psu and measured with the multimeter one black and a red line, that make the 5v line... u won't damage anything this way, lol I tried with a csppc and grex4000 on board!

Heys CU,
since your overtly agasint soldering or fabrication i would suggest not to do this UNLESS you are CONFIDENT of your work You could ask some one on here if they could re-house an ATX psu into an A4000 PSU housing... that for you my friend is perhaps your best bet! |
