Humphh a little confusing here. I decided to nag a few people about mATX PSU! Am i right in guessing the 5volt business is the connectors coming out of the ATX PSU?

yeah.... kinda put it in a confusing way....

A psu has multiple output voltages as you know.

most provide the following

+12
-12
+5
-5
+3.3

now All the connection s from the PSU use these voltages.

if there is a HIGH draw ( a lot of devices using ) a particular line (say 5volt) then the PSU has to struggle harder to maintain that voltage.

cheaper PSU's are pretty crap at maintaining a highdraw and suffer voltage loss due to cheaper components / design.

we mention the 5v line as its most taxed (especially on an amiga)

the 5v powers the motherboard, and ALL the cards / adapters / accelerators (very hungry devices!)

hope this info is usefull in shifting that confusion.

I am looking for one too! But can't find any decent name brand mATXs anywhere. Those $30 mATXs look nasty. Are we better off with an ATX PSU then?

What is the best way to test for the voltage output while the computer is running? I have a multimeter, but used it years ago, and don't want to damage the ami. Any guides anywhere?

with the machine ON, and running something AGA, I just took a molex from the psu and measured with the multimeter one black and a red line, that make the 5v line... u won't damage anything this way, lol I tried with a csppc and grex4000 on board!

nope, it won't unless you remove some metal from the back side... also you won't be able to mouth a HD on the normal place, u must find another place...

Heys CU,

since your overtly agasint soldering or fabrication i would suggest not to do this UNLESS you are CONFIDENT of your work

You could ask some one on here if they could re-house an ATX psu into an A4000 PSU housing...

that for you my friend is perhaps your best bet!

well i replaced an at psu in my old a1200t with an atx one using also an at-atx adaptor - but that required no soldering. does this require soldering? i thiught it just involved hacing the a4000 psu case and putting this one matx one in and just hooking up the adaptor and switch! if not then can anyone here at eab help me out here?!
