bah Diablo, Eye of Beholder... they are platform!
well... dungeon crawlers... and as such, there is Crawl! (the correct name i always forget) and Telengard that are still better. while Diablo 1 was cool for me who i didn't knew the genre back then, Diablo 2 and Dungeons Siege were a delusion. as much as i love Eye of the Beholder, it could never be a role playing game, if not in the sense that makes me play the role of a computer user who plays a dungeon crawling game. |

EOB is a real RPG, even with this hack & slay combat system. Diablo? Call it what you ever want, maybe a dungeon fighting game with RPG elements. It's a modern Gaunlet version.

There's a nice Diablo clone called "Record of Lodoss War" for the Dreamcast.

You right about the gauntlet thing Retro. Two Worlds is a bit like Diablo in 3D, but the multiplayer part sucks
Has anybody played Hellgate London? I heard it is crap. Just want to know from you RPG experts |

It's mainly a turn-based strategy game with a few RPG elements. This is a wide difference.

"rpg elements". Such a misused term. To me RPG elements are these:
- get into the skin of your character - ability to interact with the world around you and have influence on it based on your personal actions - deeply involving story that is told through the gameplay, not movies - play out an actual role, not a script What most people call "rpg elements" are things like quests, potions, magic, equipment with statistics, chests of treasure, skills, levels, professions, etc. I do not call these RPG elements at all, they are simply GAME elements that are often used in RPGs, but they do not define what an RPG, not in the least. |

RPG elements, game elements mostly used in RPG's. Quibbling, nothing more. Everbody knows what it means if you mention it.
