You mean the audio stutters when doing something relatively heavy in Workbench? You could try changing the priority of task "HiP-Streamer" to higher than 0 while the playback is ongoing and see if that changes things.

EDIT:
Task "HiP-streamer" does the network transfer, "HiP-sample" does mp3 decoding and playback. Both use priority zero by default.

Thank you koobo.
It was the sample buffer.

So what did actually help for you? Did you try increasing the sample buffer size in Prefs?

Yes, exactly. That solved it.

Reporting a bug with the latest version (2.56 - 15.2.2023):

The 'Pause' key will not resume playback of a 'paused' mp3 file when MHI is enabled with a Prelude sound card using the mpegit MHI driver.

Behavior: The elapsed time is advancing but there is no audio.

If it matters: I have the sample buffer set to 16kB and the mpega quality set to Hi.

Pressing the 'play' button will of course resume playback from the beginning.

I'm on an A2000, OS 3.2 with a Prelude & vampire v2+ (and some other Z2 cards).

Thanks! I'll ask for some debugging help later

Koobo,

Another bug report ...

With MHI enabled, the scopes don't work.
They do work with MHI disabled.

When 'pausing', the music doesn't immediately stop playing.
It will go on for a few seconds. I'm guessing it's playing from a buffer.

Feature request:
When adding a folder to the playlist, can you filter out non-supported file formats.
This would be useful (to me at least).

Thank-you.

This is a feature as the decoded MP3 data is not available for the CPU to draw, it is handled "outside of the Amiga".

I assume this is with MHI?

This is kind of doable. Detecting if a file is supported requires unarchiving/decompression, so it would in practice only work with uncompressed files. Alternative 1: In Prefs there is "File match pattern" that can be used to exclude files based on a pattern. Alternative 2: There's also a toggle "Continue on error" which makes Hippo skip unknown files in the playlist.

Could you check out your private messages dear professor, there's a test version with some MHI modifications awaiting.

Hi Koobo!

Thanks for updating HippoPlayer!

Here are two possible Gurus on a 68000 (emulated in WinUAE):
  • On a "vanilla" 68000 without library to play OctaMED modules, when encountering such a modulde, HippoPlayer will display a requester saying that the library is missing and then crash after selecting "Ok".
  • On the same "vanilla" 68000, playing/pausing modules via ARexx works well except when HippoPlayer is "hidden".

Let me know if I can help further!

Cheers!

I'm having problems with Hippoplayer v. 2.56 ;
trying to play .p61 or .thx / .ahx format modules
freezes my system and I have to reboot.
(.xfd decrunching, stonecracker 4.04 data).
I have xfdmaster.library v. 39.15 installed.
Should that work ok ..?!
I have modified the HiP settings;
but can't find the possible reason.

XFD loading is in fact broken at the moment! Thanks for reporting it. Will fix for the next version. Probably the new window resizing stuff broke it (which seems to have no connection the problem whatsoever).

P61-module support was actually silently dropped at some point, I didn't think anyone would store modules in this format. Apparently I was not entirely correct, sorry about that

Hey Koobo!

Another bug report:
  1. Playing Impulse Tracker modules crashes my Amiga (they used to play with some MuForce hits and "screen jumps")
  2. Playing Module Line Editor modules makes my screen "jump".

PS. See also here
PPS. Playing AHX and THX modules works here, I have a 68060 with FPU and MMU running...

Take care!

Was not able to repro this one.

This hasn't changed in HippoPlayer for a while. Are you using AHI?

MLINE mods are played using mline.library. Don't know how exactly it works.
The screen jump issue is connected to IndiMK3AGA + 1024x786 resolution + power supply + suitable CPU and interrupt load. I assume Hippo is not the only modplayer to cause jumps in this situation.

I get the screen jumps too when playing Musicline modules, when using Eagleplayer or Delitracker. That's with a Indi AGA MKII, so I'm presuming it's something to do with the Indivision timings.

Looks perfect!
There are some S3M mods that are not supported by PS3M, this is probably one of those. I shall store this specimen for later experimentation.

I made more tests and the crash seems to come from a combination of IT and ML files. If I add a IT file and some MOD files, I can play them in any order, no problem. Same if I add a ML file and some MOD files.

If I add a IT file, a MOD file, and a ML file, then I can play them in this order but as soon as I go back to the IT file, HiP crashes with a Guru 8000 0003. This crash seems to happen only when combining IT and ML files.

DeliTracker II doesn't make any "jump". EaglePlayer doesn't recognise ML files. HiP makes the screen jump about 3-4 times per seconds. Update: EaglePlayer too makes the screen jump like HiP.

EaglePlayer will play Musicline mods if you install the player to the eagleplayer directory. You could be correct about Delitracker not jumping with mline mods, I used to play them with something but can't remember which player I used, it's been a while since I played any.
I also have a A2000 with a Indiivision ECS I will have to try them on but it may be a while as it's in storage awaiting a accelerator card of some sort.
