Xbox runs DX and a modded Win2K kernal if I remember so what is it?
The Famicom (Family Computer?) Nintendo battled over that one, runs F-Basic could have a keyboard and disk drive. The Mega Drive has a modem, mouse & keyboard availible. Snes has a mouse & modem, don't recall a keyboard or anything. CD32 odd one computer insides, computer add ons, yet a console? Playstation has that Yarooze dev kit thingy (keyboard etc) Then theres Playstation Linux. This is gonna get much worse before it gets better :P |

actually, amiga started development as a 'game machine' while jay miner slipped expansion ports into his design secretly from the 'funding fathers'. you can watch all about it at the amiga history vid which was linked somewhere in the forum.

This poll is so crazy. I don't even see how it could be argued in the first place. There are so many reasons, it's almost a matter of pure definition and nothing more. This post really needs to be deleted or something.
I mean really... Of course a cucumber is meat. |

Actually it would have been better as a public poll, so we could then constantly mock those who have the guts to vote 'Yes'

It's clearly a computer. Upgradable, keyboard, harddrives (consoles back then did not have that), printers, applications... consoles back then were for games only and still mostly are.

AFAIK the Definition of Computer is '... programmable', so the CD32 is not a Computer - but can be upgraded.
I know a few People that used a A500 exactly like a Console - insert Disk, reset, wait, play - nothing wrong with that. |

BTW, loading times are a bit offtopic - what about the ROM Modules for the good old C64 and VC20 ? That would make these Machines half-Console. Some Games on my uber-PC take longer to load than a Floppy on the Amiga. |

The Amiga is an open platform, isn't it? Or am I completely misunderstanding that term? While a console usually are completely closed, and you can't run stuff on it not approved by the maker.
If I do understand that term, I assume a computer is an open platform, while a console is a closed one. Custom hardware or not. And no, I don't think the mouse and keyboard is enough to call it a computer - in that case, you could call the X360 and PS3 a computer as well. |
