I did a few years ago, in an attempt to try out a non-coroporate version of social media (I don't use any of these).
But I could never understand how it truly works. I'm supposed to join some servers/instances, but does it mean they all have separate users? The one I joined was supposed to be "big" but nevertheless was tumbleweed strewn and had minimal activity, so I gave up on it very quickly. is this still how it all works in 2023? |

It's a bit different after certain events in late 2022. Worth another try in 2023.
While you join one server you aren't limited to that one. Here's a brief explanation how it works: https://gist.github.com/joepie91/f92...d6d554a7e7c9a8 |

Thanks...I think I more or less get it now. I also saw that I actually joined abime some time ago. Still - again - it doesn't seem like there is much engagement...
Also, a brief perusal of .social and some recommended content shows that the whole thing is rather homogenous and represents what these days passes for "progressive" angle. It also seems rather censorious. It's rather amusing, in a sense that's not how I imagined a breakaway from the all-controling, anti-free speech corporate media.... |

Don't know why I bother asking questions on here. Hardly ever get an answer.

Wholeheartedly upvoting suggestions of Amiga and retrocomputing accounts on the fediverse.
X/Twitter, under the new regime lead, is becoming more and more problematic. On the fediverse I follow: - https://mastodon.social/@AmigaAbime (the account of Abime) - https://oldbytes.space/@TCD (well, TCD ^_^) - https://mastodon.social/@amigalove (though not much going on) - https://quietplace.xyz/@pixel_art_world (almost daily amazing pixel art) - https://mastodon.social/@lukhash (modern music with a retrovibe performed with Gameboys, C64s and Amigas) Last edited by jman; 17 October 2023 at 21:19. |
