I like many Sierra adventure games especially the later Kings Quest adventures.

One thing that annoys me most though is the shoddyness of the Amiga ports.

Was this down to lazyness, economics or a total lack of Amiga related talent a Sierra?

It's one of the greatest games on Amiga, and for some reason, still so unknown.

Lots of kick ass tracks in the game too... some people shed tears when they saw the ending of the game...

anyone who hasn't played MUST, or at least watch my longplay of it.

My fav part is the water level.... omg, the music, graphics, animation, rippling and waving water etc... awww, just too wonderfull

Sierra games would need to be hacked to be translated in other languages at first...
it would be a nice start. And then, get them as 256 colors on A1200.

Now these games would be good really to play with

some are fucking ugly on amiga, horrible palettes and it's better to stop there !

Hehe IronClaw, I'm a PC user that loved his friends' Amigas, that's probably why :P well it appears I wasn't wrong when saying it looked a bit like another world on the screenshots, it's actually even promoted that way on the developer's website!

Well, taking in account that:

- I'm a huge Another World and Flashback fan
- That I found this website http://onescapee.invictus.hu/
- and that I found a full pc freeware version there...

.....I think I know what I'm gonna do tonite

Will keep you posted about it!

I miss one answer I could choose. I like these games because of their style, approach to many things and consequency. In the first few games gfx was rather average or worse but you could live with it. They were a typical example of games which you love or hate. I like playing them but I am not a die hard fan.

Take it from me, I've tried the PC version, the Amiga version is better, so is the music version on the Amiga. Too bad you won't play it through WinUAE.

i don't agree on them having problems in the first place, in respect to other adventures, Lucasarts' and others'.

I have not played many of them. why? same reason i don't play now many other retro games: they have a slower game mechanics than i expect them. it's the game fault? no. it's just that, in this case, i got first to Monkey Island games and their interface had taught me what to expect!

Now, years gone, Lucasart games from that period are slow too! so it's just a matter of personal expectations, concentration/dedication and time allotted to the present task.

if you just check them not withstanding the playing pasrt, those Sierra games were real gems! way more layered and elaborated than many other concurrents, like Monkey Island, that, on them, had in turn great audio and great fun.

Sierra games were hard, they still are with a solution in your hands, but no more than platforms or shoot 'em up like [insert name here]!

in my opinion it's not the game, and this is valid very often out of this context, that is particularly flawed but the reviews on magazines, the hype or the scorn to be fruitless and ininfluent.

Nothing wrong with the old sierra (dynamix) amiga games. They are all awesome. New sierra is aweful however.

Gameplay-wise adventure games from Sierra (& Lucasarts for that matter), were fun to play for the most part. The disk-swapping/loading as the games got bigger though were a pain in the butt,much less the obvious PC-portitus.
Having to insert a disk to load a particular file,then swap over to another disk then maybe your save disk again was silly,(LSL III,Indy Last Crusade case in point)

That said & done,as a LSL fan, I would still rate the Amiga version of Larry II slightly ahead of the PC original due to the Sfx being a touch better. It was managable on floppy for the most part. Given the US was shifting to PC's with hard drives,single drive Amiga floppy users weren't going to factored into development.

The aformentioned arcade sequences were a pain in the butt, however Delphine's operation stealth wins hands down for painful control interface/ crappy arcade sequences. Sierra's better games came from the type-in interface, lucasarts had the superior point'n'click interface.

Space quest, LSL and police quest series are some of my very favourite adventure games. The humour in LSL and Space Quest was very much my cup of tea.

I also loved Zak, Maniac Mansion, Indy adventure and the monkey island series.

Besides Sierra's police quest I could not play an adventure game without humour in it. So I never got into Kings Quest, Manhunter or even the serious lucasarts adventures.

dude, OnEscapee is a GREAT discovery!!! It has a little bit of this "amateur game" feeling, but the drawings are absolutely beautiful, great mood, great scenario.....but wow some puzzles are weird! I had to go through your YouTube longplay to go past a few of them already...but this is definitely a game I want to complete! Oh, the music is absolutely super as well...

Well, I noticed from your video that actually it looked better than the PC conversion, it seems pretty obvious. I'd like to play it through WinUAE..but I saw this is an Amiga CD game and I have absolutely no idea:

- Where to download the game from
- How to configure WinUAE for Amiga CD??

Well, I suppose it's no rocket science, but if you -or somebody- could help me with that I'd be grateful

About the second part : Enable this setting in WinUAE

and boot Workbench 3.0 on an emulated AGA machine. That should do the trick

As for finding the Amiga CD version, I came up to something interesting, but either I'm missing something obvious, or else it's gonna be a no-joy

Seems like AmigaSYS asked the game creators if they could provide the full Amiga game, and the answer was yes.

But...am I stupid? Can't find any download link....

I would think after reading that (and the fact the PC conversion is downloadable for free off the official website) that the game could be considered Freeware...if not Abandonware. In that case could anybody upload it to the Zone or to MagixFTP (or even to my own FTP storage I'd be pleased to offer access to?)

I'd really be super pleased to play the amiga version of the game, that really looks way better than the PC conversion.
