"You can't even jump in Doom... "

True enough ie the character can't but I used to when wondering around and all of a sudden you hear snorting coming from behind, oh the joys of stereo speakers and setting the volume up high

Yeah its maybe not a platform game but its still a game I enjoy going back and playing again and again even on my PSP along with Wolf3D

Seriously though there were a few times I really jumped hard and banged my knees off the underside of computer when I played Doom way back when it came out

Oh dear, somebody feed the trolls, quickly!

Gods is a very good game as a whole(IMO! DON'T THROW THOSE BRICKS!), but as a platformer it sort of stinks actually. Its sluggish, hard to dodge enemies and you have to do so much combat its more a platform shoot em up than a real platformer.

Sonic is actually one I didn't think of... especially on the PS2 (Sonic Mega Collection) I enjoy playing that an aweful lot... Hm, I'll stick with my original vote.

I Like GODS as well, because it has that arcade/shoot em up feel to it. Played that a lot on the Megadrive back in the day - love the soundtrack... But Sonic 2 is without a doubt the best platform for the Sega systems.

For the Amiga it would be SuperFrog for me personally, a very nice game which I have just picked up again and started playing with my son

For the C64,
when I was 9/10 years I would spend hours playing Rick Dangerous I,
That was a great game, actually my first platformer ever !

Personal favorite?

Donkey Kong...

Once those platform games started scrolling, it got way too complex for me...
Back in the day, our characters stayed on one screen, and we liked it!!! ;-)

Mario 64 is still great, as are the Turricans, Head over Heels, Manic Miner, Zub, Flashback and Sonic.

Reminds me, the original Mario game was a lot of fun in twoplayer. Not that I played that, I played an Amiga ripoff with my little brother. But I can't recall the name of that.

As Codetapper without thinking too much, Superfrog and Turrican 2 came to my mind in first
Flink is quite beautiful but i think it's not so well known as it was designed originally to CD32

Sonic 2 - Mega Drive. My most played Sonic title, had a two player mode that was fun with a friend. You could even have a second player control Tails in the one player game.

Very fast, colourful, some good level design and the classic scrolling platform for me. The hype back in 1992 was immense for this and I think it met and exceeded expectations.

The cheat/debug mode was great fun as well - added loads more value to the game - you could spawn lots of enemies and make super slow down mode!

On more up the chain: New Super Mario Brothers on the DS is the best of the Mario games IMO. Its fast & frantic, plays smoothly and it is a *really* tough nut to crack in the later worlds.
