Thats OK. Either way I'm happy to stick with XP Home 32 for the Windoze side with the CatWeasel. Linux however I'd like to run the 64bit version. And in fact I think with Gentoo because everything is compiled, it will automatically create 64bit code? But i am only guessing. I'm a bit of a n00b when it comes to such things.

however, my experience is that catweasel does not work neither on Vista 64 nor XP64, while it works, with the caveat that it asks to be reinstalled each time i use it, on XP32. On Vista 64, though, through the TVicPort software you suggest me to use, it makes the amiga joysticks works with Winuae. |

Catweasel MK 4 Plus is fantastic!
Got my Catweasel MK 4 Plus.
It's installed and works fantastic! I can't wait for the Apple IIe R/W driver update and then it will be perfect!. This is definatly a must have for anyone who is a Retro buff. .-.-. |

Gee, I dunno what your doing wrong.
For me it was so easy. I just plugged it in and Windows installed the drivers. Then I dragged the Imagetool program and config file into a directory on my hard drive. I swapped the 3.5 & 5.25 examples over because they have them back to front and it all just worked fine. Amiga and C64 disks have read no problem at all. If I were you I'd buy another one from AmigaKit and have another go! .-.-. |

OH Yes, I had a very nice 5.25" drive here already that I had bought from new years ago. I will also keep my eye's open for some good NOS stock as I think it's important to keep spares for the long hall ahead.
My current problem is that newer motherboards use a super IO chip and this does not support the second B: drive (no select lines etc) So I have no access from the normal Windows OS for B: Some of the main disks we need to archive and make are not supported by Catweasel yet and are 5.25" and unfortunately software development for Catweasel is extreamly slow. (Microbee r/w & Apple IIe w support). What I believe really needs to happen is to make ImageTool open source, after all they have control of the hardware design and thats where the money is. Alternatively update the software to include customising extra formats via a user config file. Another big thing that is needed is a Windows XP driver to allow normal disk access for the OS via the Catweasel controller. Currently most if not all modern motherboards only support A: many have no floppy support and this is sure to become the norm as computers evolve further. Anyone know of a PCI floppy controller in the mean time as a cheap temporary fix? But still don't get me wrong, Catweasel is still a fantastic product. There is no other solution I know of that does the same thing. Every Retro buff should own one in my opinion. .-.-. |

Apparently it is possible to install unsigned drivers in Vista64 with some relatively minor hackery.

Be sure also to have wiped older CW' drivers, and to be sure, check if you are in administrator mode. good luck!

I managed to get hold of one of the last Catweasel ISA cards available new. It performed exactly as described and I had no cause for complaint.
After this experience, I bought one of the new Catweasel Mk IV cards shortly before the 'Plus' version was released. Since then, I've been so busy that I have never had the time even to take it out of the box. Having read most of the posts in the forums about this card, I'm not sure I was meant to! |

Well.. it seems I`m using an X86 Vista version ! Thats not the 64bit version is it ??
That would make sense... as Toni has mentioned that drivers don`t work .. or have not been released!! pointed it to the driver anyway ( inf file ) still no worky If I`m not admin it would surely say ?? you don`t have admin rights blah blah to do that etc etc right ?? X64 is the 64bit one stupid me.. Back to the drawing board |
