I wonder what the performance of classic Amiga stuff is on a low-end box like an Efika While the very fastest G4 Pegasos boards were probably fast enough for eUAE to work nicely (at least for A500-level stuff), I can't imagine that the dopey little chip used in the Efika is powerful enough.

Beyond that, I wonder what the performance of OS-friendly software running in the built-in JIT is like? Again, while it's probably better than the speeds in UAE, I can't imagine there being even an 060/50 MHz level of performance on an Efika, which is some SERIOUSLY underpowered hardware given that it needs to emulate virtually all the programs that it will be running.

I am sure the 68k-JIT on the EFIKA will beat any real 060/50. Remember that every part of MUI, GFX and SFX drivers are PPC-nativ and the programs will benefit from it. You have also faster RAM and Bus speed.

And I am sure that a PowerPC-JIT on a top of the line 3GHz x86 PC could beat any EFIKA

The Classic PPC version is still at 1.4.5, not sure if/when it will be updated.

From what I have read, the relative speed of 1.4.5 is Classic < Efika < Pegasos.
For classic, not sure what their hardware was in addition to CSPPC, but I would have thought the 233MHz 604 could be comparable to XXXMHz 603e in the Efika? Or not? Maybe they had an old slow hard drive or a slower gfx card, it all depends.

A 400MHz 603e with DDR would be a lot faster than CSPPC I would have thought.

I wouldn't be surprised if the architecture of the CSPPC meant that it was waiting on the caches to fill a lot of the time. (60ns DRAM is quite slow)

Yes, I've got a number of Efika systems for sale. I'm asking €300.00 which includes express delivery anywhere in the world (contact me if you're in Australia or New Zealand). The systems include an 80W Pico PSU, either builtin or external AC/DC & Radeon 9250. They do not include hard drives as everyone wants something different (eg: CompactFlash for making a silent system). I do have a small number of used 20GB hard drives that can go, for no extra payment, to the first few customers who want them installed.

It's also worth mentioning that I may still be able to get MorphOS 2 for €111.11

I hate that this does not run in a Mac PPC machine.
It's kind of stupid, to buy a weird, underpowered (and overpriced for what it offers) computer board just to run this.

Oh dear. Just like OS4 I'd love to give this a try, but with the hardware situation they don't make it easy for you do they...

It's early days for MorphOS on the Efika so I wouldn't be surprised if some kind of Mac emulation turns up. Say what you like about my prices, the board itself is not overpriced - especially in view of what people pay for PPC accelerators. As for performance, while the Efika is no supercomputer (and it's not meant to be - when was the last time you used a computer that has a cpu running cool without a heatsink?) it still feels fast and responsive. MorphOS has so much of what the Amiga is/was so it's limited memory goes a long way - just like a Classic with 128MB.

What are differences between your product and the one posted on this site?:

As far as I know, their product is a better choice for those in USA & Canada. People in other countries will find that postage pushes the total price above what I'm offering. I will also point out that their Efika Open Client 'Plus' includes a 120GB hard drive whereas my Efika systems do not include a hard drive.

Thank you for your reply ausPPC, seems like a reasonable business too. I must assume that the other specs related to Ram and Graphics Card are similar in both configurations then...thank you!
We are all expecting the release of Natami, announced for this summer, so most guys around here may be also (like me) saving some money though.
Btw, welcome to EAB!
