Opening a laced screen with a non-laced screen behind allows you to drag one over the other. That won't work if you keep switching slowly, or will at least become very annoying.

Patience guys, it's coming.

Either never noticed or cared. I would need to see an example.

A gameplay destroying example would be Pinball Illusions multiball where it switches to an interlaced mode when multiball is enabled. How many seconds of black screen is acceptable when waiting for your screen to become visible, while the game keeps on running in the background?

You can also force interlace on/off during gameplay without getting into multiball with the function keys, if you want to simulate the experience quickly and see how your display hardware handles the transition.

That explains that, never ever played Pinball Illusions. Sad but true.
Now you have explained, I can see how that would be a problem. However there cant be that many games that do that?

Dunny & I have bantered this way elsewhere on the forum too....

Tbh, it all started about 25 years ago from playing Counter Strike. I couldn't decide on an Avatar/online nickname & everyone use to chat on their open channel Mic's whilst ghosting around the map watching me carve them up.
I regularly walked into most Hostage maps, shot the entire terrorist team dead with 10 rounds or more still in my MP5's first clip. The dead were amazed saying how the fu**ing hell does he do that??

Having decided on Kin Hell for an online name & loving Morph from being a kid, the only right thing to do was give him an AK47 & use him as an Avatar.

Morph from Tony Hart's desk....

Life is too short.

Thankfully there aren't. There aren't that many demos that do this either, but what a disappointment when you watch one and miss the picture or effect.

For me personally, the biggest peeve is when using the OS and having a mixture of screens open. It really messes with your flow when swapping between programs. Just imagine if alt-tab or cmd-tab was sometimes instant but for one or two programs you get a blank screen for a while.

At least we have depth menu programs to alleviate this. I never bothered with one in the CRT times, but now it's way too painful to shuffle through five screens with the depth gadget when there might or might not be a resync or several involved while shuffling. :-)
