That's basically the guts of it. I think most ports had some form of parallax (Shadow of the Beast style) but not Amiga or DOS.

SNES was one of the versions with parallax, these are the sprite rips from the stages.

@Akira cheers mate!

That's me done for the stages. I couldn't really think of meaningful updates for the Crusher, Military and Sentinel stages, but four others I've either replaced outright or enhanced in some way.

To Earok:
this is a fantastic effort, congratulations for the sustained work on this ungrateful task!
Although I have zero love for the Arcade game I think that correcting the wrongs inflicted upon the world by the spawns of greed and stupidity that US Gold were is a much noble and worthwhile mission and I can only encourage you to proceed even further.

This said, you should also contact the current licensee to ask for permission to officially re-release it, I would buy it just to nick US Gold in their golden grave.

Errata: As Earok pointed out, US Gold are not responsible for this game, I clearly misremembered.

@ReadOnlyCat Thanks! Heh, I didn't think US Gold had anything to do with it though?

In any case, here's my update for the day. Some of the other ports of the game had animated death sequences, although they mostly just boiled down to the robot flailing on the floor there were two exceptions - the Sentry being kicked or tossed off the stage, and the Supervisor exploding. Although those death scenes remain as still images in my version, I've added additional frames with comic book-esque framing (the source for the additional frames were the SNES and DOS versions, respectively).

I just checked Wikipedia and you are absolutely right: US Gold have nothing whatsoever to do with it. It's weird because I recall reading somewhere that they were associated with the game but maybe I mixed it up with some other memory.

However much regret I have that US Gold ever existed I cannot reasonably go on falsely accusing them of misdeeds they are not responsible for, so thanks for correcting me.

Release candidate 1 is out now! This will be the final build if I don't make any further changes (I'll launch this officially in a week or so on http://cd32.co.uk)
