hhmmm looked at keropi method again. It looks a very good one! 2 questions though:

1) Instead of buying these 2 items:

ATX-to-A4000 power converter
ATX Power Switch

Wouldn't it be more convenient and cheaper to just have this:

Amiga A4000 ATX PSU Adapter Cable with Switch

2) What type of ATX PSU would i need? Am slightly confused here. Anyone can provide an ebay linky?

Regards

I have both switches, the elbox amigakit.com has is a newer version (I guess) and it works flawlessly , both behave like u have a normal A4000 PSU on.... the elbox is more expensive, as it is obviously of greater quality... plus u need the switch too!
you need a micro ATX psu like THAT

Hi keropi

So would i get the 2 items you stated or would the item i linked be just ok for the job? Could you please link a suitable micro atx psu from the uk ebay? I am not too sure of the dimensions. Would it be screw-to-screw compatible?

Regards

you need either the elbox one + the switch _or_ the simpler one...
the mATX psu's I have seen are screw compatible (only the upper 2 screws though) and HERE is a pricey UK suitable psu....

HMMM just done some tests and got some frightening results. I used me flickermagic and bmon instead of the picasso iv. I unplugged the hd and cd rom. I booted up the cover disk with octamed tunes and i seem to only get audio out put from L (left side). I also tried other apps that ouputs sounds and i get the exact same result everytime. Now when i put my picasso back in instead of the flickermagic and bmon (with the hd and cd rom unplugged as before) i seem to get proper sound again from L and R (both sides). Is my Paula buggered? Anyone got any suggestions?

Regards

I tried the A4000 out again. I worked out some of the problem. The RC/Phono cable i used for the R and L Paula output was broken so it caused one of the output to be not working. So Paula is indeed working ok. But this leads me back onto my original problem. If i connect evrything up including the picasso, cyberstorm and the hardware devices i get low volume sound or on just L or R, but if i just connect the picasso and cyberstorm i get perfect sound again. Is this due to lack of power in my psu?

Its either a lot of EMI noise or most likely a drop in current to the mobo from a some what taxed psu.

specificially when you reduce the power load.... the sound improves...

you can easly get a cheap atx and a converter from amigakit to run on your a4k... the best thing to do would be to try it... I know you are overtly worried when it comes to wire/splicing and soldering... but if you have a friend that knows a little i am sure they could help.

the atx psu's I have tried failed to provide voltage above +4.9v for the 5v line... amiga crashes if it gets lower... especially ppc amigas! u may get away on a 060/zorro one though...

at the risk of spamming..

heres the PSU i would lump in it (minor 20 minute moddification to the chassis froma dremmel!)

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=442822

and heres what i would consider as an opportunity for lumping in striaght away

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=457258

you could always build a step down circuit fom the 12volt line using a couple of regulators! hell you could even use a couple of pots and make it vairable! that way you could step it up if your 5v line is under a lot of load!

If an ATX PSU is delivering less than 5V I'd say you've picked a cheap nasty one - as a PC dweeb I've seen all kinds of things, but an ATX PSU with lower than 5V on the 5V rail is usually reserved for cheap PSUs or underpowered PSUs.

But that's just my 0.02c.

Sounds like the mATX PSU mod might be your best bet here CU..

lol Zetr0 , I don't know of the first one, but I have the 2nd psu, the 300W Colours IT MicroATX PSU pPFC . I have tried it on my csppc/grex setup, and because the +5v line cannot deliver above 4.9v , the amiga crashes in aga stuff.

I've never seen a PSU deliver below 5v on the 5v line.. occasionally more (>_<), but never less (at least not any worse than 4.95).. but then, my PSUs are generally quite expensive ones (£100 500W jobbies)

well, the mATX's I measured average at 4,81-4,83v so they are not good for amiga...

yeah, it seems mATX psu's are very "flexible" in their ratings... not only they are kinda rare, but they are crap too!
